I have a brother and sister duo. they are 13 weeks old. They are 1/4 Flemish Giant, 1/4 Holland Lop, and 1/2 Mini Lop. The last few days, my Male bunny has recently tried to hump his sister. He chases her around my room at night. She doesnt seem to really care.. if he doesnt stop she will thump at him and run away, but he refuses to stop. I cant find any testicles on him.. and ive heard that males of medium size dont get them till 5-6 months.. but hes the runt. Should I be worried that he can get her pregnant? Will his balls drop early just because hes a runt? Is it normal for him to be humping at that age? he isnt spraying pee and she isnt agressive yet.. Just want to know !?!

Yes she can get pregnant from him, separate them and desex them whenever possible

But it may be best to keep them within sight of each other by using something for a selection wall in a caged area so they don’t lose much of the bond they already have

Sometimes it takes longer for larger bunnies to mature, but that isn’t always the case 100% of the time. Plus these are mix breed bunnies, so there is even less certainty here. Your boy can get her pregnant. Maybe not quite yet, but you don’t want to risk it because you really don’t know when she will mature for sure. Bunnies are induced ovulaters, so they could do the deed at the moment her body is ready and you would never know and it would be too late. So the best thing to do is to play it safe and separate them now. You can have their cages near each other, but keep in mind that there needs to be some space between them. They can do it through the bars! Wait until they are old enough and then have them spayed/neutered. The boy will likely be ready first. Watch for his testicles to drop. He is over 12 weeks, so it could happen at any time.

Just a footnote on neutering if you have your boy done first…. It takes a month for any motile sperm to disappear so even when he has been neutered he can fire live rounds for a further 4-5 weeks. They can also hide their testicles when you look for them so they could well be there but he is sucking them in.

I agree, separate them. There is too much risk.

Male bunnies can pull their testicles up out of sight too. So there’s the possibility they have descended but when you check they’ve temporarily ascended.

The other risk is your female could turn and bite his genitals.

Thanks guys. Dexter was giving up on trying last night. He would try to hump her but she would move and he would just not try again for awhile. This kept repeating all night. I’m going to take dex into a vet near me (the vet im going to get them fixed at is a distance away) and see if his balls are dropped. I see lentil size testys but I figure hes sucking them in because he doesnt like when I put him on his back – he is still shy.
