Hi there! I am wondering if I should buy the “Hagen Living World Deluxe Habitat” rabbit cage in the size X-Large. It measures 46.9″ in length, 22.8″ in width, and 24″ in height. My Holland Lop rabbit is 1.5 years old, and around 2-3 pounds. He currently lives in an outdoor hutch and before that in an indoor cage, but I am looking to get him a new cage. It is getting hot where I live, so I want him to live indoors until it cools down. He also gets daily floor-time.

        Thank you!

        -Greta

you had him inside then took him out?..
I do believe that’s the same one rocket has. he doesn’t seem to mind it, i/he would both prefer if it were a tad larger though. I try to even it out by keeping him out most of the day when I’m home. if it’s the same thing as me I would recommend removing the built in bunker portion to give more room for your bunny to sprawl out.

No, it’s not big enough; the minimum is 4ft by 2ft per bunny and that cage is slightly under that. Sadly store bought cages are almost always too small.

You’d be much better off using a puppy pen, it will give bun lots more space and it will be cheaper!

personally I wouldn’t recommend it, Store bought cages are so pricey especially for what you get. If you feel you need a cage instead of a pen go with a XL dog crate. Much cheaper too. and the tray slides out for cleaning

I have mine in the smaller one. I’m building her a bigger one. It’s a nice cage just too small.

Hi Greta. The best store bought cage I found is the Oxbow Play Yard Small Pet Habitat, Large. It is 47 in L x 25 in W x 26.5 H and has an attachable X Pen. This can be purchased at Petsmart for $190. I bought this for my last bunny who was tiny and weighed less than 3 pounds so it was adequate for her. When she passed away and we adopted a 5.5 pound mini lop we built the NIC Condo for about the same amount of money but it has twice the space and I used the X Pen from the old cage to give him even more room.

Eliryanna I love your bunny. Mini Lop? I built a C&C cage for my two bunnies. I still have to add a ramp and more coroplast. They seem to love it.

When mine were caged I had a cage that was similar in size but what I did was get a second one and cut out a side and put them together to make one long cage. If you have to have a cage you could do that. A X pen makes a great housing choice because its easy to get in and clean and it can be shaped into different sizes. I have 2 Midwest exercise pens that are 36 inches tall. I bought mine off of Amazon. The 36 inch tall ones are on sale for $51 and change with free shipping. I was trying to remember what I paid for mine and looked it up. I used one that was attached to my cage. I have used them alone as well.
