On Monday, I got home from work and checked on my bunnies that live in cages outside. I noticed that my female had pushed open her cage door and got out and was lounging in the yard. When I went over to check her water in her cage, I noticed a freshly born baby rabbit laying on the ground in front of her cage. I quickly looked in the cage for more and all around my yard for a nest but could not find anything. I also did not find a nest or any pulled hair. I scooped up the baby and the mommy and brought them both in the house. I put her in a cage in the house with the baby but she just hopped around the cage and had no concern about stepping on the baby. I got worried about the baby so I put mommy back out side after latching it on to mommy to make sure it ate. I then put the baby in a small cage and kept it warm. The next day, I got home from work and went to get the mommy so she could feed the baby. I noticed that once again she got out of her cage and I saw a small amount of fur in front of her cage. I looked around again and saw that she had 5 more babies that afternoon and was now pulling her out for them. I grabbed her, all the babies and put them all together in an indoor cage. Has anyone ever heard of a rabbit giving birth two separate days? It didn’t seem like she wanted anything to do with the first one and also didn’t seem like she was still in labor. It is so odd. to me.

This isn’t the best forum if you have questions about bunnies giving birth, we don’t discuss intentional breeding here and very few of our members have experience in matters of newborn babies + mothers.

I hope you and your bunnies will be well and maybe someone here can offer you some clues as to what’s going on with the mother, but there may be other internet forums that may offer you more help in this situation.

Here’s some links to approved articles on oops-litters and newborn babies:

I believe that the birthing process can take time in some cases, and I also believe I’ve heard about two separate pregnancies being carried at the same time. I have no first-hand experience with this though so I cannot comment any further on that. Bam gave you some resources that you can explore, but if you are concerned, I would recommend seeking out a reputable rabbit vet.

I wish you luck with your rabbits. I am going to lock this thread since continued discussions of breeding are not allowed.
