OMG picked Silence up on Monday so in love. We have had a crazy few days so this has really been my first chance to get on.

Picked him up Monday arvo, spent the night at our rental in Perth, then drove 8 hrs yesterday spent the night at a hotel and 8 hrs today to get home. HE WAS A CHAMP in the car! I was super stressed the first few hours but we stopped for a lunch break and he came out of his travel crate and into his hang out crate and was just awesome, munched on his hay, ate pellets, explored etc, after that I felt much better. He even ate during the trip and otherwise chilled out.

We got home a few hours ago and I set him up in his room upstairs to chill and settle in, have checked on him a few times and he seems happy enough. Cant wait to start bonding with him properly.

He is just adorable! I haven’t got any great pics yet but now that we are home it is my mission to do so! Watch this thread for photos!!

I have been waiting for your thread to appear Lee, hehehe…… and the wait was worth it – Si is adorable!!! My gosh, you are SO lucky! So pleased to know your trip went well, I can’t help but wonder if baby bunnies deal with the stress a bit better? Henry had to travel for a good 3+ hours to get home and didn’t have any of the comforts that you offered Si – he’s a lucky boy! And I’m sure Henry showed no real signs of fear – just curiosity…. “where am I, is this mine, can I have that?” and mostly – “can I eat that later?” (when he saw my cane bed! DAM bunny!), ha ha ha ha!

And I keep saying to everyone that I have forgotten Henry as a baby…. but I swear, as soon as I saw Si’s amazing photo’s, all my baby Henry memories came flooding back! Baby bunnies, just like puppies melt my heart, giggle!

Congrats on your new baby Lee and a BIG welcome to BB Si you cutie you! *Sigh*….. (lol!)

Yes! Puppies are much the same, when they are young they take things in their stride, which is why we always push people to socialise them when they are babies, I think rabbits come with that same initial period of taking things in their stride.

Hahaha, he is maybe a *little* shy, but not really fearful of anything (even my dog barking randomly during the night when we stayed in the hotel), he just cruises around checking everything out, I think he is slowly warming up to me, he comes to sit next to me when I am hanging out with him. He pooped in his litter tray this morning (yay) before that he had decided his grass matt was in fact the pooping area haha. I haven’t really had him in the main part of the house yet, there are so many places he could get into and Im not sure I could get him out again so would need to supervise heavily, plus I wanted to let him settle in a little first. I need to finish his room off, he is in the play pen at the moment but I need to clean the room up so he can have the whole thing.

                            Aww baby Henry!

He is absolutely adorable! I’m so happy for you and can’t wait to hear more about him as he settles in. He sounds a bit like my rabbit, by the way…I was all set for Hugo to be freaking out during the car ride home, but he was a trooper. Although he took a bit to warm up to me, he was very curious and eager to explore. He didn’t seem too fazed by my dogs, either…I think I’m more bothered by their barking than he is! Please post more photos when you have them! Can’t wait to see him grow up.

Im sure it is normal, but he isn’t overly keen on interacting with me does it take awhile for baby bunnies to warm up to you?

Yes, just give him some space and let him get settled. Then you can start getting him to warm up to you by sitting in the room and ignoring him. Let him come to you and don’t try to touch him at first. After he has come up to you and doesn’t seem afraid, offer him a treat.

                                            Thanks LBJ

I moved him into his downstairs area yesterday after we finished setting it up, and I am going to leave him there for the time being so as not to upset him by moving him all the time. So he has a smallish space (but bigger than any standard rabbit hutches you can get) under the stairs, and then I can open that out onto a bigger area around my work desk as well. And once I have thought up a way to block it off so he can’t get under the couch he will get more freedom at times as well to free roam a bit when we are around.

I just need to be patient I know haha, its just so hard! Cant wait until he is old enough to have some fresh greens so I can bribe him to love me!

Si Update!  (And a question about pellets!)

Progress! He is spending a lot more time outside of his favourite box! He is much less skittish, so doesnt worry about us moving around, coming in our out of his area, people/dogs going up and down the stairs etc. He likes sitting on his grass mat now near the edge of his play pen, which is way nicer than him hiding in a box.

He is EATING SO MUCH HAY! I can’t believe how much his appetite has increased! BUT he isnt eating many of his pellets (Oxbox Baby Rabbit pellets), should I be concerned? I bought Timothy Hay as he had the baby pellets but now Im worried and wondering if I should buy some alfalfa hay too if he isn’t going to eat his pellets…..Any advice?

He responded to my voice a little last night and came out to see me.

here is his little set up….
So this is his main area under the stairs, you can see him in the litter box in the corner, his favourite box is the hahn superdry one, but he sepnds time on the grass mat at the front a lot now. I can shut the play pen so he is locked into this area when we aren’t home/supervising or when the untrustworthy dog is hanging around the house.

And then it opens up onto this extra area for him.

Once I have found a way to block off the underneath of the couches I will also start opening this area up for him to spend time out with us.

He’s eating his hay, so that’s good. I would wait a little while to see if he starts eating the pellets. It might be the new surroundings.

He is definitely eating them a little (I can see the little spots in the bowl where he has obviously had some) just not a lot.
