Hi all, so I adopted a 2 year old lop a little over 2 weeks ago and she is super afraid of me. Last week she was starting to get a little more used to me I think. I let her hop around my room all day and just put her in her cage at night (also in my room). So basically I was just spending time sitting on the floor and letting her come to me and sniff me if she wanted, but not forcing anything. I feel like I was making progress but then I took her to the vet because she had eye discharge and it turns out she has an ear and eye infection and I have to give her eye drops 2-3x day and ear drops 2x a day. So basically first off the problem is she does not let me pick her up at all. So I tried giving her her drops when she is laying down under my dresser and she backs up to the very back and turns around. I’ve been having to corner her in my room and give them to her and she really hates it. She thumps and jumps over my arms to get away. Basically its been almosta week of giving her the drops and she full on hates me and its terrified of me. When I walk into my room she sprints under my dresser and looks so scared! Any movement I make she runs for cover I give her a treat after her drops to try to undo the damage and I stroke her ( she only lets me pet her when in her cage or a corner and she doesn’t have an escape route). Ugh I’m so sad because I feel like she is never gonnaa trust me and she’s so scared of me. Anybody have any experience with new bunnies that you’ve had to give meds to? People have recommended I have her sit in between my legs but I literally can not pick her up to place her here and if I approach her she  runs away so basically I have no control over where she goes.Feeling sad, I want her to like me!

Okay try approaching her by crawling very slowly towards her but stay in front of her eye so she doesn’t think you are a predator. SInce your rabbit is newer to your house and is most definitely still adjusting, walking on your hind legs will freak her out. My rabbit does the same thing unless I make slow, gentle movements. Also maybe try not to pet her unless she is in the open instead of a corner. I know it’s hard to avoid petting an adorable bunny rabbit! Also, do you pick up your rabbit to get her out of the cage? If you do, just let her come out on her own since her cage is like a safe place for the rabbit without the threat of a human hand coming in at any time. She will trust you!!!! It took my rabbit about a month to warm up to me, and he is still a little skittish around people he doesn’t know very well. She isn’t terrified of you, she is just in unfamiliar surroundings and that is completely normal. And when you approach her, pet her head (not her body) and move slowly so your legs are around her instead of picking her up. Then add the drops to her eyes while you have a firm hold of her and yes, a treat always helps!! Good luck, hope I helped!!!
