So ever since Oliver’s mouth problems, he’s been very low energy. He primarily lounges all day long. There may be 10-15 minutes in the evening when he explores but that’s it. He’s eating greens again… With less enthusiasm… But he is eating. He also isn’t showing any signs of pain of issues with his mouth. He seems content in general. It is warmer here.. And I’ve been running the ac… But it’s meant for one room and its being used for an entire apartment. So the room Olive is in most of the time is warmer but not extremely hot. I’m trying not to be concerned but I can’t help it. The purpose of this post is really too (hopefully) hear that this is normal considering his age, the heat and his recent health problems. So, are my concerns warranted? Or am I most likely over reacting? Thanks in advance

Higher temps may make a bunny less active. Not moving about a lot generates less body heat, so it’s sensible for animals to keep rather still when it’s warm.

          How old is he?

I’ve said before my bunny Bam is not a very active bunny, he lounges most of the day and evening and then he sleeps during the night – but that’s how he’s always been.

He’s almost 10. Will be in October. All outward indications are that he’s happy and just being lazy. He’s not usually super active but is interested in moving around and interacting with the family in the evenings. It’s just that he isn’t doing that that has me concerned that he may not be 100%

Ten years is a very old bunny. Congratulations!!!!

From what you’ve written before about his recent issues, it seems your vet is not eager to do a lot more than “wait and see” if things brighten up. And it does seem like the mouth issue was related to the teeth. I guess she doesn’t feel it’s altogether ethical to probe and poke a geriatric rabbit in search for sth that may not be anything or not anything that could be fixed anyway.

I do understand your worries though, but I think you are doing all you can. He’s eating, he doesn’t seem to be in distress. There may be sth going on, but it’s not really possible to tell what exactly from the way he is now. Pet him from me. Even if he doesn’t come up to you for pets now, I bet he still loves a good nose rub.

Well thank you. Olive certainly doesn’t think he’s old and I still think of him as my baby.

It’s cooler today and he was move active this morning, so I’m inclined to think the heat is making him hot and not want to move. I just have this fear that something may be wrong and I don’t catch it because I assume he’s just being lazy…I realize there’s nothing to be done, I just read all the time that lethargy is a sign of illness in a rabbit. Then I see my guy laying around and it freaks me out!

Bunnies certainly have a way of making me worry!

Bunnies excel at making their owners worry. I think they are the true kings of the animal kingdom in that respect. If bunnies could use keyboards they’d have their own secret Internet forums where they’d tell their tales of “how I scared the wits out of my owner” to each other.
