Hi, We adopted Popcorn into our family 3 weeks ago at 15 weeks old.. She has settled in well, she is showing more of her character every day and becoming less shy. She is a house bunny in a roomy hutch but spends most of the day/evening free running in the whole of our downstairs. She seems to love the mini humans best! She follows me everywhere and runs around my feet. She still won’t sit near you for cuddles but will let you pet her if you go to her but we are hoping to bring her round. She’s been brilliant with her litter box with only the very occasional dropping outside, that is until tonight! I have a blanket that I put on my lap to try and encourage snuggles which she’ll come and sit on but tonight she jumped on the sofa where the blanket was and did a wee!!!! I was quite shocked but just put the blanket in the washing machine and ignored the fact that this had happened. I also noticed quite a few droppings just outside her hutch. Any advise as to why all of a sudden? And what I should do?

Unfortunately we hear this all the time and its not an uncommon behavior because sofas and beds are soft things that smell like their humans and they like to mark them so it’s best to keep her off the sofa….it’s not at all a litter training thing either.

As for more droppings, she’s coming into puberty and soon will need to be spayed.

My bunny used to pee on my bed, I’m assuming because it smelled like me and like sarita said bunnies like to pee on things that smell like us. I really enjoyed having my bun on my bed, so to break her of the habit I would immediately put her in her cage after peeing on my bed for time out. I only left her in her cage for 5 minutes and after a couple days and several loads of laundry the behavior stopped.

Thanks for your messages she’s peeing a lot now so I’m assuming it’s her marking her territory territory. She is booked in to be neutered next Thursday so until then I’ll have to grin and bare it! She’s had two bunny time outs this evening Already.. She hates being cadged, so hopefully it’ll help. May be a silly question but if I use antibacterial spray is this enough as I have kids too! ?

You can use vinegar + water. It takes out the smell and it’s non-toxic so it works with both kids and bunnies.

My bunny had a sofa-peeing issue like this, but it went away after he’d been neutered. Block the sofa off until she’s spayed and her hormones have settled (usually a couple of weeks.)
