I am moving to another apartment at the end of the month and the last tenant my landlord had there was a heavy smoker. It took me a long time to get most of the smoke odor out so it hopefully won’t affect my rabbits. My landlord wants to paint the ceilings with oil based paint to get rid of the rest of the odor. I only heard it can be bad for rabbits if its on walls and the rabbit can eat the paint, but is it OK to use oil based paint if it is on ceilings and not walls? I don’t know too much about painting effects myself and some knowledge of the affects would be great.

I’m guessing you might do well to get on some kind of DIY chatroom. The guys on those places know some obscure stuff about things like that. Maybe even a paint store. I’m guessing it will have to be an educated guess on the person’s part, but it would be more educated than I can offer. Maybe someone else will have a thought, but in the meantime I’d check out some other site or call a paint store…not Lowe’s or one of those, but a real paint store that JUST does paint

It will need to air out for a while after it dries. Oil paint gives off a lot of VOCs.

After a pipe burst at our house, Porky and I had to stay at my dad’s house for a couple of weeks longer than it took for the work to be finished b/c the house was filled with paint smells that gave me a headache.

Thank you for the response. Yep I have a few windows in my apartment that will be open the whole time, it will still be while before I move in. The oil based paint will only be on the ceiling, not that she bites walls from what I seen, but its good to be safe.

Maybe invest in an air purifier?
