Ok now I really want some urgent help, the pellets hazel was eating have now been withdrawn from the local stores here completely n it was a local brand pellet ( had no specific name or ingredients list on it, was sold in loose)so I got him new local pellets which like he had for week but since two days he has just stopped it too n insists having the older pellets which are no longer available as I said b4 ( I had like cup of those older ones left which I have been giving him since two days bt they they will be over tomorrow n there is absolutely no way I can get them )

pls suggest how do i make him eat his new pellets(tried all branded n unbranded pellets available here nothing seems to intrigue his taste buds)..he likes his hay bt mostly prefers his pellets ..I do feed him cucumber n raddish leaves bt that too just as a treats which I know wont satisfy him…

P.S He is a one year old adorably stuborn bun.

I swear if this was any other animal I would say tough love but with the risk of Stasis …

Can you ask the store what kind they were? That way maybe you can find something similar?

Just in case I would buy some critical care just in case he takes this being stubborn that far.

What are the new pellets you are feeding her? Brand and “model” (like oxbow for adult rabbits or oxbow for young rabbits).

You could always try and mix it with nightly salad? I am not really sure. I am currently switching Lilith from the baby rabbit oxbow to the adult and I am starting with a 75% 25% mix, then I will do 50/50, then 25/75 until she is fully ready for the adult stuff.

Thnk u for ur reply law bun

like I said no specific brand name or anything….
The question of mixing with the nightly salad will be futile coz being picky I know Hazel will pick up the salad leaving behind the new pellets.
Well the stores here still sell the pellet he had as a three month old should I get him those for the time being?

If he is eating hay instead you will be fine, make sure he has a good balanced serve of green leafy veg daily and you can rest easy that he is getting sufficient nutrients. Many buns go completely pellet free for a variety of reasons.

Well, you never know quite what comes over a bunny, so you just have to try and observe her, especially her pooping habits, and look for signs of discomfort, lethargy, weight loss etc to figure out if what’s going on.

As long as a bunny eats hay, poops like she should and is in good spirits, I wouldn’t worry too much about the pellets. She’s a year old, so she’ll do fine on just hay + greens for quite some time, and chances are she comes around and just starts eating the pellets one day.

But if she doesn’t eat hay and the amount of poop and size of the individual poops diminish, then she is in the risk of GI stasis, and that is very dangerous to a bunny. A bunny must never have an empty stomach.

TLDR: Is she eating hay and pooping like she should, is she acting her normal self (apart from refusing pellets), then this is not very worrisome and you can keep trying with the pellets for a while longer.

Hazelbun – Instead of using all the old pellets up and then switching straight to the new one. Mix the new one with the old one do a half/half mixture if you can and see if that helps him to switch over.

I mistook him for a doe! Sorry! Hope he wasn’t too offended!

Mix the pellets (old with new) as Lee says, but don’t worry as long as he is eating hay and greens, As Roberta points out, plenty of buns do very well on a pellet-less diet. A little bit of baby pellets can be ok, but he’ll need a much smaller amount than he did hen he was a baby, baby pellets are too rich in protein for an adult bun.

Generally more bunnies suffer diseases and conditions due to being over-fed rather than from being under-fed. They should get a high-fiber low-calory diet.

Hey sorry was busy with him so didn’t update anyone. ..

Well on lee’s suggestion I did mix his new n old pellets 🙂 and trust me for two days I did feel I succeeded bt utimatelty when I checked his feeding box I was dismayed at his sheer cleverness of eating the old stuff while just nibbling the newer ones …I did continue only with the new stuff for the next 36 hrs bt to vain … so did get partial success in the initial stages of mixing but ultimately his sense of taste was way to strong for my tactics

for the time being I got him baby rabbit food(he just adores it) n increased his salads to ensure balance in his diet ..hopefully the pellet vendor informed me that the adult pellets he loves will be back in couple of weeks so till den it’s baby food for him….

Thnku evryone for ur suggestions n advices… Will keep them in mind
