        Hello everyone!

We have a flemish rabbit, Chloe. She’s 3 years old and 10lbs (tiny for a flemish). We are having a problem with our house smelling like bunny! She’s a free roam rabbit for the most part and is PERFECTLY litter box trained and is neutered. We do keep her box in an X-pen, just in case she needs her own space. We have hardwood floors, but bought some carpets to put under her x-pen and through the downstairs because she hates the wood.

The issue is we can’t do anything to clear the house of the bunny smell. I clean her litter with vinegar/water and have tried using the stove pellets, but I think it makes it worse! Even after I clean her litter the house STILL stinks. We cleaned the house filter and that doesn’t work either. I’m running out of ideas. I don’t want to be “that” house that stinks all the time.

        Thanks

        Zolie (and Chloe)

The problem with animal smells is that they eventually sink into things like carpet, wood, blinds etc and stick. You may need to look at getting anything fabric in your house steam cleaned once every now and again just to refresh it.

You could also try using some of the activated charcoal odor filters, apparently they work wonders. http://www.buyactivatedcharcoal.com/animal_odor

Has she missed the tray by accident and tinkled on the carpet?

I cover carpet with small, easily washed rug-rags, so if the bunny happens to tinkle beside the box (I have one bunny who sometimes have lousy aim), I spray enzyme stain remover (Resolve) on it and then wash it. Actually it appears to me that enzyme stain remover has a swift minimizing effect on odour.

A bunny can get a UTI and be temporarily a bit incontinent due to that.

Have you checked her scent-glands? Sometimes they get plugged up with stuff that doesn’t smell at all nice. Here’s a video on how to clean them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x9dbSUdomg
