I am a first time bunny owner and am absolutely in love with my little Leonardo! He’s an indoor free range rabbit and has me wrapped around his little paw! He just turned 1 and I’m curious if rabbits eat less as they get older? We had a little scare a few weeks ago with him not eating and he was rushed to the emergency vet. They told me that he didn’t seem bloated and they didn’t think he had a block in his tummy. He does EAT but a few months ago when I had his pellets ready he would circle my feet and almost claw my eyes out for them and now I put them down and he will eat them throughout the night into the next day. I have seen him munching on hay and drinking water. I know he’s going through his “teenage” years so I didn’t know if all this was normal. Any help would be SO appreciated!

Did you happen to open a new bag of pellets recently?

          Does he get greens?

Ideally, a bunny should eat less when he stops growing. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they should WANT to eat less, many (if not most) adult rabbits have bigger appetites than is good for them. Is he neutered? Sexual urges can make animals markedly less interested in food.

As long as he is eating hay and not losing weight I wouldn’t worry too much. But keep an eye on poop (as we bunny owners tend to spend a good deal of our lives doing anyway).
