I have a female dwarf hotot rabbit, and I adopted her a few days ago and she’s gained weight, I’ve been giving her hay and I haven’t given her much treats. I only gave her a very small amount of treats 1 time and 1 piece of fruit and I would give her either of those once a week. She’s on Timothy hay. To be honest she has lack of exercise because my dad and I has to go out and get her a play pin and maybe a bunny leash to walk her because I live in a very big apartment and its really difficult to bunny proof our house and she does not know how to behave without not wanting to get picked up and going back to her cage. Is there any way I could put her on a diet? Will exercising help her lose some weight? This is my first time pet and I’m still trying to learn how to keep her as healthy as possible. Thanks

She’s just filling out most likely and not fat – you do not want to put a rabbit this age on a diet to lose weight.

              What is her current diet?

Also I do not recommend the leash but yes, she does need out time to explore and play and it’s better for her mental health than staying in the cage all day.
