Meeko (9 weeks now insert cry face), is so into all my plants. Nibbled the aloe, loves the lavender and no matter how hard I try, always seems to find a dead weeping fig (ficus benjamina) leaf and I have to grab it from her. I read lavender is okay, ficus is NOT, and aloe?? What can I do about the ficus? I love the tree and it cleans the air but even though I have it up, it drops leaves here and there..

Side note: can’t wait until she stops pooping outside of her cage lol
Other side note: and stops hiding under the couch/end table

All you really can do is be vigilant and pick up any leaves from the floor asap or try to put some kind of netting underneath it so leaves that fall don’t reach the floor. Ficus leaves contain a milky sap that is irritating to the skin and the mucosa of the GI tract. This can cause rashes (not likely on bunny skin though) and vomiting and nausea.
Aloe isn’t poisonous. Lavender is fine.

Aloe won’t hurt anything and lavender is fine, like bam said. Is there somewhere else you could move the ficus tree? I don’t know how irritating the dried leaves are, but you don’t want her eating them.

No there isn’t really a good place for the ficus, darn. Glad aloe is not bad. Thanks guys

I thought that aloe was dangerous for rabbits. I remember reading that before in these forums. Here are some sites I found that list it as a danger for rabbits.

I knew aloe can cause digestive upset in large quantities, but never heard of it being considered toxic. Good to know tobyluv.

MediRabbit says the juices are toxic.

Kailyn – I would keep the aloe plant out of reach too.

It’s right, I’m sorry, high doses of aloe over several months can cause toxic hepatitis in humans. I found this:

                      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2826749/

But you could place the aloe so the bun can’t reach it, leaves don’t readily fall off it like they do from ficus trees.
