I tried to teach my rabbit how to spin around and now I’m beginning to teach her how to hi-five but she is too treat aggressive to learn anything!

And do you all have any tips about getting your rabbit to not be so treat/food aggressive?

Lol I never thought you could teach a rabbit tricks, but that sounds cool!

Rabbits aren’t really like dogs, and probably the only way you could teach them a trick is with a treat, and if she’s treat aggressive there’s nothing you really can do.
I just let my rabbits eat in peace.

Oscar used to be insanely food aggressive. I would get attacked every time I fed him anything. I tried a few different things, but most of it made him worse. Then I tried this: I would put some food in my hand, make a fist and place my hand on the floor. Oscar would come up and start going nuts as soon as he smelled the food. At first he would of course act aggressively, bite my hand and dig at it. If he did any of that, I would remove my hand and say “No”. After a couple of seconds, I would try again. He learned that the food went away anytime he displayed aggression and after a while he became calmer. If he managed to be around the food for a few seconds without attacking, I would open my hand and let him eat. I repeated that process endlessly, slowly increasing the time he had to stay calm before I gave him the food.

He’s much better now, he still goes nuts when food is involved, but he doesn’t attack us anymore. Unfortunately, you will most likely get bitten during this process, maybe a glove would be helpful. I didn’t use one, but it’s something to consider. Also, I would make sure your bunny has already eaten before doing a training session, if she’s not hungry she should stay calmer.

            Good luck!

Hazel- I’ve tried holding my hand and not putting the food in the dish until she calmed down before but I haven’t done it consistently She doesn’t really bite unless you are in her way, then she will let you know to move by nipping. She only (so far) digs and lunges. But I might try to do that consistently.

Mocha- Yeah rabbits can learn all sorts of tricks if they are cooperative. They can spin around, jump over hurdles, high five, stand up, come when called etc…
