My boy rabbit is letting out white sticky fluid out of his penis/anus area

Hello, I found 2 rabbits in a box on the street and decided to take them home. Not knowing anything to do with rabbits, I felt bad for them. I have no idea how to care for them or what to feed them or house them in. Not only that, but one of the (both male) baby rabbits have a white sticky fluid coming out of their penis/anus area that smells and that’s making not only the fur of the rabbit producing it smell, but also the rabbit next to it. What should I do? I know that they’re dwarf rabbits, but I have no idea what the age is or what to do or what this white fluid is.

 That should be very helpful to you.  Since you aren’t sure of the age of the rabbits, it might be best to keep them separate.  Rabbits that aren’t neutered will very likely fight when they reach sexual maturity.  It sounds like they may already be that age with the fluid that you are describing. And it can be difficult to tell the gender of baby bunnies, so unless you are absolutely sure that they are both male, you would risk a pregnancy if they are together.  Do they both have visible testicles?  If so, they would probably be at least 4 months old.

If you think that there could be something physically wrong with one or both of them, you would need to take them to a rabbit savvy vet.  Having been cast out, it would be a good idea for them to be checked over anyway.  If you think that it might be too much moneywise or otherwise for you to keep them, you  may want to consider taking them to a rescue. Vet bills for rabbits can be expensive, but if you want to keep them and bond them, they will both have to be neutered.

The minimum that they need now is good quality hay, good pellets (no colored bits or seeds), some fresh greens (go slow at first and try one green at a time, such as kale, parsley, cilantro or romaine lettuce), a bowl or bottle of water, something sturdy to house them – either cages or dog pens or x-pens.  Then you can think about litter training, bunny proofing rooms of your house, etc.

Hmm, based on what you’re describing, I’m assuming this is a combination of two different things. Both of which suggest sexual maturity. I guess my question is whether or not this fluid is actually thin fluid. Or is it thick and pasty? That would be my concern because that could be bladder sludge.

Maybe I’m nuts, but the only fluids like that that I’m aware of in a bunny don’t have anything to do with sexual maturity. My thoughts are mucous discharge from the digestive tract due to irritation/inflammation (poor diet?), or like LBJ said, some type of urinary issue.
I would take them to see a rabbit savvy vet to make sure it isn’t something needing treatment.

Are you sure? LOL No, seriously, I have seen bunny semen before. Something definitely comes out when they “finish”. As far as I know, it doesn’t smell. But an excited bunny will often spray too, which does smell. Anyway, this isn’t something that would be constantly present and I would think they would clean it off pretty much immediately. That is why I suggested it is something else, like bladder sludge or even an infection.

Never seen anything out of Moshi, but then again he was neutered about 2 seconds after his testicles dropped! I would have thought that they wouldn’t “finish” unless there was a real reason!

JR – I guess it depends on how excited they are. But yes, it does occasionally happen. I witnessed it first-hand, but I also remember a member on BB describing what happened when their intact male was showing his affections for a stuffed animal.
Like I said though, this isn’t something that would be present on the fur all the time. That’s why I wonder if what biz_rocks is seeing is something else.

I’m not 100% sure what that could be, but I would encourage you to ask guidance from your vet. If unfixed, that does sound like it could be related.
