Did anybody else what the race? American Pharaoh is now a triple crown winner! The first one in 37 years! (Since 1978)

Isn’t that cool? It was a “historical moment”.

We watched it. Our favorite was Frosted, or “Frosty” as we call him. I never really got into American Pharoah, not sure why. But I’m still glad a horse finally got the Triple Crown! I wish the race had been a little more exciting, though. Frosty was getting up there, but other than that nothing remotely exciting happened. Pharoah was first all the way around.

I never have really gotten into the races, but I watched the 3rd one this year on the internet to see what would happen. My older sisters always watches them and gets into them every year. She really wanted the horse “I’ll have another” to win back in 2012. She never got into American Pharaoh either, but she was also happy that somebody won finally.

That’s funny, the last horse that I REALLY wanted to make it was “I’ll have another”, as well. I was heartbroken when he didn’t get to run in the Belmont Stakes.

I’ve watched the big races for the last four years or so, the hubby isn’t into it very much but he watches it with me anyway.

Yup. Watched it only because we were invited to a party to see it. Quite the excitement! Boy, that horse just had it right from the gate!

I used to watch all 3 races for the longest time but I stopped a couple of years ago. The equestrian part of me is fascinated with racing and the excitement of it but I’m just too much of an animal rights advocate to enjoy it anymore. They push those horses so hard and they are not even fully grown. It makes me sad that they are sometimes pushed so hard they have heart attacks or break their legs while running. And then there’s the “behind the scenes” of what happens to a large percentage of the horses who are unfit to race or just not fast enough.

Sorry to be a downer, lol, I did really used to love racing. I used to read books about all the big name horses like Man O’ War and Secretariat. A few years ago I met Ron Turcotte (Secretariat’s Jockey) and I was super excited. He signed a bunch of stuff for me.

I also used to own an ex-race horse but a Standardbred (harness racer). What a blast she was!

I didn’t watch, and I don’t normally pay any attention to horse racing.

This one though has been huge in our local news, b/c the owner of American Pharaoh is local.

LPT—- I totally agree, I think it is very sad.

                          Eepster— That’s kinda cool.

LPT – Same. I watched with my family and I like seeing the pretty horses, but it’s hard to feel really good about it.
