I have a Dwarf Hotot female bunny named Mercy. I just adopted her four days ago, she’s my first time pet. I’ve read that bunnies are active at night, but do they nap during the day? Mercy tends to close her eyes for a few seconds when she’s in her hidey house or when I’m petting her. She even halfway closes her eyes and sits quietly, but I’ve never seen her sleep yet. My mom is a night owl and during the day I’m always with Mercy, so she checks on her at night as I do during the day. We never see her sleep. Sometimes she sits with her eyes open without moving while sitting up, and I wonder if she sleeps with her eyes open…? I don’t know. XD Is this normal for her?

Aw. You’re cute!! Don’t worry. She will sleep. In fact as she gets more
Adjusted to your home she will rest more and more. Eventually she will do a flop and you’ll think she’s died. But it just means she’s content and trusting and wants to crash out in her side. I believe they are most active early and late in the day.

Okay! ^///^ Thank you so much, in fact she did flop on her side yesterday for the first time since being home. I hope she falls asleep soon!

Some bunnies do sleep with their eyes open or partly open. With my three, their noses are a better sign. Their noses barely twitch at all when they are asleep, and mine sleep from about 9 AM to 11 AM and then again around noon until 4 Pm give or take.

Yes Olly sleeps with his eyes open sometimes, I rang the vets in tears when Olly did this, I said he was on his side, eyes open and asked how to give CPR, I turned round in my office chair to find him at the bars as if nothing happened, I was like “Oh he’s at his bars now, sorry to have disturbed you at 3:00 am on the emergency line.”

Yep, mine will sleep with their eyes open. In fact, when I found Wooly sleeping on his side with his eyes SHUT one time, it freaked me out. LOL
