We’ve had numerous posts on this including one from Pinky. I think it’s rather sad to see all these feral rabbits myself.

It is sad, they run up for a love and then get put down again and walked away from, but its strange how so many come out of no where towards people on their way to work or school, people do feed them, that is the good part, but holding them and putting them down is a bit heart-breaking, sort of. “I made a friend today, but he left me here.” Maybe there is a law about taking them in.

I thought it was kind of cute. I wonder if they would be okay if someone gave a bunny a home?

I think it would be fun to visit the island one day. It is and it isn’t sad. The rabbits don’t have any predators on the island, nor are dogs or cats allowed to visit, they are constantly being fed by residents and visitors. They might have come from domestic stock but they’re essentially “wild.”

I don’t think rabbits actually need humans for love and affection as long as they are a part of a rabbit colony.

I saw a tv-show called “The Burrowers” by BBC, where they had made an artificial warren for rabbits in order to study their behavior over several years. The film makers found that even though they used domesticated rabbits for the experiment, they adapted very well and soon to their new life in the “wild”. They had to use domesticated rabbits because wild rabbits were too shy of the cameras.

It was a really interesting tv mini series, it had badgers and field mice too. I of course was mostly interested in the bunnies though =)

That sounds really interesting, bam. I’m going to have a look at that later

I’m sure there is a massive colony, or multiple ones. I imagine some people have looked into taking a bun from there in, my concern would be potential contamination given the rabbits supposed origins

I agree with bam. I saw that show as well.

I have had several folks from IG that live in Japan go and bring produce to the rabbits there. They said there is also a hotel on the island. It is very sad, but at least nobody tries to do harm to the rabbits.
