We lost one of our furry family members (our kitty) unexpectedly earlier this week. My husband knows that the fastest way to get me back to semi-normal is to let me rescue another animal. So the second I came to him with my puppy face late on Tuesday night, he knew something was up. The conversation went something like this:

        “Honey?”

        “Yesssss?”

“My friend who volunteers at Isle of Wight sent me a picture…” (We foster for this shelter when they’re tight on space, so he instantly knew where I was going. However, they almost exclusively have dogs and cats. In the year we’ve fostered there, there have only been two rabbits and a pig for other animals.)

“Oh no. What are you bringing home tomorrow?”

“Can we foster a flemmie? It’s a girl.”

“Another flemmie? Yes. Do you want to foster to adopt?”

And that’s how I wound up at the shelter (which is an hour away) at 10 AM when they opened the next morning.

Ciri is officially a foster for the next week or two. That’s the timeframe I have to decide to adopt her, but we’re planning on making it official.

The shelter was happy that she was going to someone with bunny experience, but it was clear they had no idea what to do with her – her cage was barely bigger than she is and she was on wood shavings. The ACO kept making jokes about eating her . The front desk receptionists were great, though.

I took her to the vet that afternoon. She has an eye infection (essentially pinkeye), and she’s missing a tooth that won’t grow back, but is otherwise healthy. I’m waiting to hear back from my local low cost clinics for a spay appointment, as my vet wanted $400 to spay her (eek!) and we have 3 low cost clinics nearby that spay bunnies.

She’s already picked up on litterbox habits, and is devouring her hay.

After her spay, I have plans to hopefully bond her to Navi and Sheo. I can’t wait to see a trio of cuddling bunnies.

Congrats! She is gorgeous! Look at those beautiful huge ears! Definitely expecting to see lots of Ciri pics. My hubby wants a Flemmie but I don’t think we have room for such a big bunny right now so I’m loving seeing everyone else’s big bunnies!

Sorry for the loss of your cat, Ciri is beautiful, she looks a bit like my Olly but his ears are more pointed, so he must be part Flemish, I’m glad you adopt, these babies need a home.

                        I’m sorry for your loss.

Ciri is so beautiful! I’m glad she’s making herself at home. A trio is going to be so fun. I’m not sure how you’ll be able to stand the cuteness overload though. lol

Thank you, everyone. She’s shaping up to be quite the character! Her eye discharge finally went away, but we’re still finishing the full course of antibiotics. Spay is scheduled for the 10th!
