So Bun had been a bit of a naughty bun recently, whenever he would come and cuddle he would poop on or near me as a bit of territory marking, silly boy,  so because it was clear it was all territorial, i decided it was time for him to get the big snip.  The vet is really close to us, so into the car we hopped on thursday morning.  There had been a bit of confusion wednesday night as they had mistakenly send me their cat info email advising me to keep him fasted, but that was easily resolved after a phone call and Bun got to have his usual breakfast.   This vet was great, very reassuring, i got a call early arvo saying he was in recovery and starting to perk up so i could pick him up later that evening. They kept him there until he had eaten and pooped so that was great and they also gave him a shot they said should act as pain relief for the next day but to call if he seemed in pain.

Bun came home, but didn’t want to leave the little nest id made for transport for the next hour or so, but did move around the nest and rearrange it, so i sat him on the couch next to me, and offered him some broccoli which is his favorite but he ignored.  I started getting a little worried but I knew the vet was open to 7PM so i decided if he hadnt eaten by 630 (one and a half hours after getting home) id give them a call, well at about 6 he ate some of his broccoli and hopped out of the box,  using the litter tray and then getting back on the couch

he then stayed sleeping there for a little while longer, before perking up and wandering around the room.  He then found his new toy id gotten him and had a nibble as well as flopping in a few choice locations.  Then something happened that made Bun not very happy,  a friend told me rabbits normal vital signs because id been joking im not used to watching things come out of anesthetic without doing regular obs, so I cracked out my stethoscope had had a listen to his heart, and if you have the chance to  listen to your bunny’s heart, do, its interesting how very fast it was, i counted about 3 beats a second (humans are normally between 60-120 a min,  bun was happily around 180!) then i listened to his lungs, and while humans are around 20 a min, bun was at about 60, once again nice and normal, and i could even hear his tummy making noises which i took as another great sign!  Bun tried to chew on the stethoscope and move away from me, he is very glad i do not own a thermometer! His wound also looked good, no stitches and the vet said it was okay if he groomed it but keep an eye and make sure it wasn’t getting red and inflamed because of over grooming, if it was they might need to put a cone on him.

So to bed Bun and I went, him with plenty of fresh water and hay and some salad.   Woke up in the morning to the vet calling to check in, i checked in on Bun and got a bit worried as his litter was dry, he had not passed urine since the surgery! uh oh!   enter worried Bunny Mummy, the vet made an appointment for an hours time, and as i was getting dressed he did a big pee! boy was just scaring me.   So no vet trip on friday.   He has a post op follow up tomorrow though so thats good.  Only thing that is worrying me is he is eating, but only his favorite things, so he will eat the leafy part of broccoli but leave the stalk, or eat the green bit of Bok Chow but ignore the “stem” bit, he is also rather immune to bribery right now, even if a treat is offered, unless its where he can get to it easily, it gets ignored, so hopefully he will get is appetite back soon.  Thanks for reading about my sweet boy, and if anyone has any ideas on how long it will take for him to get the munchies back, please let me know!

Sounds like it all went well. Give your sweet little boy a nose rub from my hairy herd.

Our Backers and Potus were just neutered recently. Potus was back to normal eating right away, but Backers took a few days. He would eat hay and greens, but no pellets. He’s fine now though and happily stuffs his face on anything.
