I haven’t ever used wood stove pellets as litter. I am currently using yesterdays new and love it the price has gone up. I saw kaytee wood pelleted bedding on petcos website http://www.petco.com/product/126505/Kaytee-Wood-Pellets-Bird-And-Small-Animal-Litter.aspx?CoreCat=MM_SmallAnimalSupplies_BeddingLitter. I was wondering if anyone has used it before and what they thought of it?

I bought a bag once from drsfostersmith.com, where I get most of my supplies from. It’s a pine pellet, with a fairly strong wood smell, very similar to Feline Pine or any other pine pellet litters. It turns into a very fine sawdust like substance when wet. I liked it well enough. You can read some reviews of it here: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=17054. The bag at Drs. Foster and Smith is 15.4 L and I see that the one from Petco is a lot smaller, 4.9 L.

Not sure about Kaytee in particular but I use hardwood stove pellets as my litter. It lasts longer than yesterday’s news and is cheaper.
I wouldn’t buy them at pet stores though. You can get them at stores like home depot (40lb bag for $6 vs ~8lb for $10 at petco). It’s like buying hay from pet stores vs horse supply/farms.
Just make sure it’s hardwood and there’s no accelerant. I’ve never seen one that has anything other than wood in it but supposedly there are some out there.

I use those kitty pine or feline pine pellets, but I first put paper at the bottom of the litter box then add the kitty pine or feline pine pellets. After that another layer of paper so I can monitor my bunnies pees if she is having problems. With that I add hay mixing alfalfa and timothy since my rabbit is still 3 month old. My baby bunny likes this and it’s easier for me to clean.
