Velvet 5yo and Herman 1-2yo, have bonded and herman is constantly licking Velvets eyes and vice versa. It’s great because Velvet always had matter in her eyes, and now, NOT! Is that a normal bonding thing?

I am going to guess its normal because my male rabbit does that to my female rabbit as well. I wondered about that myself. When he first started licking her eye area I worried he was going to over groom her. She appears to tolerate the behavior but I don’t know if she likes it. She will sometimes move and reposition herself so she can get groomed where she wants to be groomed at. Maybe someone else with more experience can answer the question better for you. Like I said it must be a normal thing because my rabbit does that too. I have wanted to ask that question but never have.

Hmm, Velvet seems to really enjoy it, and she licks Hermans eyes too. So, I don’t think it’s just male to female. Plus, her eyes don’t get all that white matter in them like she used to.

It sounds good that your rabbits both lick each other there and like it. Kilala is my girl rabbit, I never see her groom Usagi that way. She just does the typical face ear and body grooming. I think that’s why I wondered if it was normal and or if it was a dominant type of behavior being he is kind of bossy and is the one that seems to be in charge.

Bossy, is right. He gobbles any food they get, and then trys to steal whatever Velvet hasn’t finished yet. I’m hoping he settles down, after all, he was running wild outside for “at least” 2 weeks when I found him, lucky to be alive, the Vet said, his aggresive behavior is prolly what kept alive out there.
