Why is it that emergencies only seem to happen on holidays or in the middle of the night?

It’s been a while since I last posted. The last time I posted, I believe it was about the fact that I was finally moving out of my parents’ house. Tiger is still housed in her exercise pen while we get her habitat set up, and it’s coming along nicely – almost done, in fact! And I just recently got a goldfish. I got up in the middle of the night tonight because I remembered that I had to do a water change, and then I realized that Tiger never ate her evening meal. She ran over to it, seemed excited to have it, but won’t eat. Won’t eat pellets, veggies, or hay. I put in a rare papaya treat for her, and she only nibbled on it. So I spent the next while sweeping, cleaning her litter box so I can check for poops in the morning, putting in assorted treats and alfalfa cubes, and taking out her fleece blanket. I examined it, but I couldn’t find any tears, so can’t think of anything that would be causing a blockage. But I can’t think of what else would be wrong with her. She keeps hopping over to her litter box, and sits in it. I then dug around her closet until I found her Critical Care and syringe. I’m thinking of taking her to work with me in the morning and getting a coworker to help me hold her and force the mix in. And maybe a car ride will help somehow. Animals are weird sometimes, how you can’t always figure out what’s wrong, and sometimes they seem to get better for no reason other than you brought them to the vet, or you brought them somewhere. And then they’re glad to be home and they’re normal again. I’m sort of hoping that’s what happens tomorrow.

She was so active this morning! She was so happy to spend some time with me. She did lots of binkies when I sat down in the x-pen with her! She’s also taken to circling me on rare occasions, which I love, but was never expecting out of her, since I had her spayed when she was younger. She’s fairly lethargic now. I imagine tomorrow will be eventful or uneventful enough for me to know when to take her to the vet. I might end up taking her straight from when my shift when work is done tomorrow. (Glad I only work a half day!) (Glad I planned for an emergency rabbit fund before I moved out!) DX

Going to bed. Needed to rant. And maybe someone can suggest something I haven’t thought of. Writing the post helped me to organize my thoughts, so even if no one has any ideas for me, this has already helped. I have a plan for tomorrow. Goodnight!

Boyfriend held her for me while I syringed some critical care into her. She spit most of it out though.

It could be her teeth. My Yohio exhibited the exact same behavior in October last year: he ran up to his food, then didn’t eat. Exhibited signs of gas/stasis but nothing was seen on X-rays except a too empty stomach. He had his molars ground Nov 5. He had to have them ground again 2 days ago, there were new spurs and he stopped eating (only for a day this time, I booked him in to the vet right away).

Getting most of the CC on yourself is par for the course when syringe-feeding CC to a reluctant bunny.

Have her molars checked if this doesn’t go away. If she has tiny spurs, she will need to be anesthetized in order for the vet to see them properly. My Yohio had the tiniest spurs but they obviously hurt him. Some bunnies can have spurs growing into their tongue and not show any signs of distress.

Tummy massages are great for gas and getting the bunny to hop around is good for the same reason. Here’s a very good vid on tummy massage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbyC6CWbm5M

Tiger is doing much better! Eating and pooping again! Even doing happy bunny shivers/half binkies, and laying down with her back feet stretched out. I took her to the vet before work (because my manager is awesome and let me show up late even though she was the only one at the store), and the staff there were able to force feed her for me while I was at work. I then picked her up after work. The vet said that he couldn’t hear any gas or feel any abnormalities by touching her belly. He thinks she was just stressed by her change of routine and the move. And he thinks my stress from the move may have affected her as well.

“Getting most of the CC on yourself is par for the course when syringe-feeding CC to a reluctant bunny.” – lol, that makes me feel better. XD
I was wondering if it was her teeth. Since she couldn’t have eaten anything bad, I could only think of her teeth or gas as the problem. Her teeth have always checked out good before during checkups, so I wasn’t sure. Turns out her teeth are still fine. She just had a very quiet stomach. Thankfully, she is doing much better now.
Thanks for the video link, I’ll definitely try that with her. It might take a bit of practice for her to let me touch her belly though. :p
