It has been 20 months since Bailey passed away aged just 18 months. Most of the time I am fine but every now and then (now included) I break down. I’m in the RAF and away from my family and can feel quite lonely at times. I can’t adopt any rabbits at the moment because of living on camp so I am starting volunteering at my local RSPCA socialising the rabbits – my first day is at the end of this month. I’m hoping this will help me feel better about not having Bailey around. I didn’t think it would still be this hard after nearly two years.

Our pets have a way about leaving an awful big hole in our hearts. We lost our dog Mysti last July, and I still tear up when I think about her.

I think its great that you’re going to volunteer and work with the rabbits. No bun will ever replace Bailey in your heart, but it sounds like you have alot of bunny love stored up inside you that the buns at the RSPCA would love to share. Your work socialising those bunnies could be just what is needed to help one or more of them become someone’s beloved bunny.

Sending you a big hug to let you know someone else “gets it”, and another one for volunteering to bring a little happiness into other bunnies’ lives.

I am so sorry. Unfortunately most of us know the pain you are experiencing, even though she had a short time here I know that she left big paw prints on your heart. My heart breaks for you. :,(
I hope that your time with the bunnies helps with the pain a little. Nobun can replace Bailey, but like JackRabbit said, hopefully you will feel a little better knowing you are improving the life of a bunny less fortunate than Bailey to have such a great home.

I think volunteering will do a world of good, for you and those lucky bunnies. After Spockie passed I couldn’t get a bunny for over 9 months, and ironically I found Binkybunny one month after he was gone. Just seeing pix of other bunnies and sharing stories of my 8 years with him did a lot to fill the void.

RSPCA, I used to work there but mainly with farm animals, oh the fun I had catching the 2 goats we had and we had a pig we called Nipper, I got into trouble for letting him out, I was told NEVER to let him out again because he used to bite, that’s why he was called Nipper, you can have a lot of fun at the RSPCA and there will be some sad times and stories you will hear, helping at the RSPCA was great because I couldn’t keep any animal at that time.
                  Good luck.
