Washed all my one year old Netherland Dwarfs Blankets (that go around his cage) as well as towels / mats. Now he is afraid of them to the point that he wont go near them or into his cage / littler which is obviously an issue. I used a normal detergent as well as a tiny amount of bleach and no dryer sheet. He loved this soft blanket prior to this and was always laying on it.  I feel bad and he wont use his litter as much or go into his cage. Any help or links to other threads would be appreciated as I want to make him comfortable again. Thanks a million.

Do you have anything that still smells like him that you could “rub” on his blankets? If not, you could try putting a few of his poops on them (I know, thats why you washed them in the first place!) to help him “recognize” them as his. Since he’s so sensitive to them not smelling like him, maybe only wash half his stuff at a time next time so his scent is still around.

I’m into overkill (!) so when I do bunny laundry, I run an extra rinse to make sure there isn’t any trace of detergent smell left and never use fabric softener or dryer sheets on their laundry.

also he may not like that they smell like something else. I use tide free and clear and a generic oxyclean to do all my pets laundry which leaves them fragrance free. I agree though next time I would just wash half at a time.

I wonder if you cant make them smell like him maybe you could make them smell like you.

I agree, try to get his scent onto his stuff.
