Since Mr Roger has been feeling better after his trip, he’s become very, very naughty. (On the brightside, his stay away from home also re-litter trained him as the increased cage time that I’m too soppy to give him worked!)

In hopes of distracting him we went to Pets at Home and I bought him some new toys.

I was going to get him seagrass mats for under our drawers but they looked really flimsy and the hay tunnel I wanted was just a tiny bit of hay stuck onto cardboard and my wife put her foot down re: mess.

We compromised on a massive multi-story castle, a plastic tunnel and a dig box I’m not entirely sure he’ll use but plan to sprinkle his food on.

Also, Mrs absolutely-not-we’re-a-one-bun-family spotted a new bun in the adoption cages and thought he was so cute she had me ask what his special needs were. It turned out that Jarvis didn’t have any special needs (misleading signage clearly designed to steer people to the buns they charge for) and had been there for a long time BUT he was only 16-20 weeks old. My wife was concerned he’d grow too big (the random vet we saw told her that if we get a bigger one it’ll bully him, plus she’s a sucker for dwarf any-animals) and I don’t want a baby bun.

We don’t really have space for two cages but I’m hopeful that she’ll warm up to a second bun when we do have room. (I worry Roger gets bored.)

Here are pictures of him with his new toys:

I think I fixed the pictures.

I LOVE the castle! How cool is that? Is the Teach N Treat new? My buns have one, but they are just too smart for it. LOL

You better be careful, Paradigm. If this is what Roger gets for being naughty, he may be up to lots more mischief! Lol

Haha, my wife said almost exactly that, BrunosMama! He wasn’t actually naughty on the day he received his goods (they were set up in the evening) so since there’s no classical conditioning I’m banking on poor association between cause and effect.

Sorry I couldn’t reply before – I went to bed. The vegetable play patch has been a hit – I put it inside the castle so make so he didn’t feel exposed and he’s been digging in the right place.

The teach’n’treat isn’t new. It took Roger about two months to learn how to use it (he’s not the brightest but it’s all hat now so he wasn’t enjoying it anymore.

At first he couldn’t work out how to go through the tunnels and three times we put him on the top floor he simply ate through a window.

By morning he was up there himself, which is lovely to see. At the moment he’s on the bed surveying his castle (I’ve moved it from the corner for night time to the centre of the room where it was yesterday).

I love that I can see how much happier he is. Since got back from his trip he’s seemed depressed in addition to his trouble causing but he’s been so excited about this castle that my wife has joked that we’ll never see him again.

Oh he is the king of the castle!

Seeing Roger’s little face peek out makes me miss the bunny maze we had for Boston. She would peek her little head out the top and it was so cute!!

So the vegetable patch is a toy for digging?

That little face peeking out of the castle just made my day. Too adorable!!!

All bunnies should have castles, for sure.

                                  Love the carrot patch too.

                                  Spoiled!

I’m the worst replier ever, but he is adorable.

I know this thread is old now, but I wanted to update to say that despite my initial concerns that the castle would be a short lived waste of £15, it lasted over two months (although I did fill it with paper and telephone books to make it last longer).

It was sturdy and didn’t collapse at all – I threw it away because he’s chewed it so much that paper shreds were scattered all over and it was unsightly (if he’d had his own room then I probably would have kept it a bit longer).

The design is much cleverer than it seems – the four towers keep it in place. I tried to make a DIY castle out of a much too large box and some shoe laces (to hold the box together) but it was ugly and slid all over the floor.

For now the DIY box has been reduced in height by a third and I’ve reorganised Mr Roger’s cage area so that his things don’t take over our room.

But if I had a little more room (and maybe even without it) I would buy another in a heart beat.

(He also liked the carrot bed and took to carrying the brown paper around.)

He hasn’t chewwed anything isn’t meant to in over two months and until I reorgansied his area he didn’t pee outside his box: success!
