So I’ve cycles through bedding for him, now I got him kiln dried aspen shavings and I think he loves it. He loves gnawing on the chips. Now for the point, is this okay behaviour? He’s sitting with his feet and paws under him completely, both eyes almost shut with ears layed back and completely touching. He’s chattering his teeth softly almost like when a human is freezing cold. Then the grossest thing happened (hopefully it was a cecotrope) he reached his mouth back towards his butt, then his head came back forward but he brought dropped this dark round stuff, dropped it and then ate it.

When a rabbit sits like that (looking like a duck) and “tooth-purrs”, the rabbit is very happy.

          It probably was a cecotrope.

Yup and I try to avoid bunny kisses when their breath smells like poop. Sounds like he’s very content. I can just picture it all. Good job!

Sounds like cecal munching to me. Megabunny – I guess I should be glad my buns don’t like to give kisses.

Otherwise, I agree with the others. He sounds like a happy little bunny.

Bahaha glad he doesn’t give me kisses when he goes all cecal munching  Tomorrows his full cage cleaning  Btw, previous owners never cleaned poor Edgar’s cage floor and it’s full of dried calcium deposits from his urine over the two years they’ve had him(wasn’t litter trained)  I always make sure his bedding and everything is fresh, but it is a real pain getting the dried substance off and needs a serious soaking and scrubbing, any recommendations?

You can spot clean calcium deposits with vinegar soak + scrubbing with something like an old toothbrush

New cage. Kidding, sorta. I’m not sure if that stuff ever comes completely off but vinegar and water soaks are the best I can get. I guess I figure if I’ve cleaned it then it’s clean old stuff. Maybe that’s the lazy side of me winning out over the OCD

Vinegar is good. Use the higher concentration kind of acetic acid vinegar (18-24%) and let it sit for a while, then scrub. It generally takes most of the calcium.
