I just got back home from college and I went to play with my bunnies whom I’ve had for almost 11 years now. One is a Silver Martin Dwarf and the other is a brown dawrf bunny. My little brown dwarf is tilting his head slightly to the right and turning it back constantly. I thought he was having a sezuires but I’m not sure. He is also extremely off balance on his right side as well. He’s hopping all wobbly like. He’s eating fine and he’s walking around as if he’s okay but he looks awful. I feel so bad. My dad said he’ll take him to the vet tomorrow if we have enough money. I just want to know what’s wrong with my poor bunny. I googled Head Tilt in rabbits but his head isn’t perminatly tilted. He just keeps tilting it back and forth slightly. Like he can’t keep his neck from moving. This was yesterday. Today, his held is SLIGHTLY tilted and he’s breathing really really fast. I can hear his little breathing. He’s hopping and running around but he seems to get tired fast and goes to lay down. He’s also shaking a little more than he usually does. We tried to get him to the Vet, but all the ones closest to us only see cats and dogs.

Hi Tink, yes, you need a vet. It could be EC and by treating it early you will be saving a lot of money and time. In the early stages the treatment will work faster and won’t be prolonged, leave it and you will be up for long term treatment which will cost more. There are other things that could cause it too but same again early intervention is best.

Possibly post your location (not exact, just general) and someone else in the area can guide you to a closer bunny vet. Also check out the House Rabbit Society list and vet search on bunspace.

Ditto, Roberta. He needs a vet. If it is EC or an inner ear infection (which is very possible) the earlier he starts treatment, the better the prognosis. Please keep us updated.

Permanent head tilt can result from delaying treatment. The sooner he is treated, the better. It could be EC or an inner ear infection. Either way, you will need medication prescribed by a vet.

May I ask what EC is?

                    E. cuniculi.

                    It’s a parasitic fungus.
