So I just got a new bunny earlier today, and I did all the research I thought I’d need beforehand (diet and hygiene and exercise). What I failed to prepare myself for was the rabbit being very angry about being moved from one home to another D:
My bunny Eir has been stomping and tossing things around in her cage and refusing to leave it. I’m hoping that someone has some idea about how to get her to relax around me. I tried just laying near the cage quietly for a while, but she just stomped about because of that. I tried to calm her down with some treats, but she rises onto her hind legs and scratches or growls.

She’s probably frightened. It’s her first day in a new home and she probably doesn’t know what to do to herself, so she holds on to the only thing she knows is hers (her cage). I would leave her alone for now and let her settle. When she is feeling more comfortable, open her cage door and let her come out on her own. You can do this without being right there at first. Then introduce yourself by sitting quietly in the room and ignoring her. Eventually, she will become curious about you. Hopefully that helps.

When I first brought my rabbit home, I just let her stay in her cage for the day to get relaxed and get use to the smells and sounds. After that, I spent a lot of time in my room sitting on the floor reading out loud and singing or doing homework. Finally I opened the door to her cage and let her explore me and my room with out me touching her. When I felt she was becoming a little more comfortable around me I would stick my hand out, give her a chance to back away if she didn’t want to be messed with. If she didn’t back away, I would softly pet her head. I would just go from there and see how that works out for your rabbit.

Goodness she sounds like quite the character :~) Definitely give her space and time – she’s probably just overwhelmed.
