        Hi all!
Gizmo took a trip to the vet last Thursday for some mild sore hocks (they are looking much better) and I also mentioned to the vet that his eyes had been a little watery. His eyes aren’t red and it isn’t discolored fluid, so she said it wasn’t cause for concern and that maybe he got some dust in his eye. She looked at his teeth and said they looked fine, as well. His eyes looked a little better the days following his visit but the last few days they have been really watery again (primarily his right eye)!! I spoke with the vet today and she said it could be his tear duct needs flushing or it could be the apex (“root” for lack of better term) extending farther than they should.
Does anyone have experience with the latter scenario? If they do X-rays and discover it is his “roots”, what can be done? I’m so hoping flushing his tear ducts will take care of it but since he is a senior bunny it wouldn’t surprise me if it was dental.

        Thanks
        Briana

I definitely would recommend a head radiograph, so yes to that. As far as I know there is nothing that can be done to change the condition – here is a good link that explains the condition in elderbuns that might help answer the question about the x-ray and the cause of this:

It’s the dental disease and elder buns.

I’ve had this in a few of my seniors and regular dental exams were the only things that could be done.

Thanks for responding just curious, what does a dental exam consist of? Is dental disease painful for a rabbit? Were your bunnies prescribed any medications? I’m trying to get an idea of what we might be in store for. His eyes haven’t been too bad today, but we’re still going back to the vet on Friday. All of this, of course, happening while I’m paying for a trip to the Bahamas this summer! These things always happen when you’re on a budget, don’t they? Ha
