I noticed in the chat thread there are a few of us that enjoy running (BubblesJo and Nora….who else?!).

Awhile back I tried joining a running forum but it was HORRIBLE. I think the BB forum has my standards set so high I’ll never find a good running forum (or anything else forum!).

I thought maybe I’d start a thread for us runners (and whoever wants to cheer us on) as we head into full-fledge race season (in the U.S. anyway–Summer!).

        So….

        What are you training for?

How often do you train/how far?

Do you train on treadmill or outside?

How long have you been running?

What are your favorite songs to run to?

What have been your set backs?

        What gets your pumped up?

I’d love to motivate each other and I love hearing other’s experiences!

What are you training for? 10k in May, 15k in June

How often do you train/how far? I do one long run per week (6-8 miles) with a few shorter runs and walks throughout

Do you train on treadmill or outside? Mostly treadmill; I really really struggle with running outside (help?!)

How long have you been running? Starting in Oct. 2014 (Couch to 5k app)

What are your favorite songs to run to? I love old and new country, old and new rap, old and new rock, new pop, 80’s classics…I have everything from Tiffany to Hollywood Undead to Reba Macintyre on my playlist! I run my hardest to “Jesse James” by Cher for some reason!

What have been your set backs? Stretching…I never do it enough and am sore a lot. And running outside.

What gets you pumped up? The feeling after a nice long run. I’m so motivated to eat healthy and get things done! And my fitbit!!! PM your e-mail address if you want to be fitbit friends!

I don’t run in marathons or anything (I applaud you guys that do!) but I do enjoy running a few miles here and there. Does that count? Hahaha

Oh, this is a fun! Great idea LLH

What are you training for? Bluenose 10k in May! My first 10K

How often do you train/how far? I’m trying a 5-10k schedule that gets me running 3x a week

Do you train on treadmill or outside? I prefer outside but the weather has been awful in Eastern Canada… We still got snow today. So I’ve been running in an indoor track and outside whenever the weather permits.

How long have you been running? I guess I started in 2011, during field work. My field assistant was getting back to running after a back problem and convinced me to do it with her. It was hard at first, I couldn’t breathe! But it got better and better until I got addicted.

What are your favorite songs to run to? I’m kinda ashamed to say this, but all my running music are Glee covers! They do such a great job at getting a good tempo, and I like the twists they do to the songs I know.

What have been your set backs? I had a hairline fracture on my right tibia in summer 2013. Three months of not walking sucked. And I had to take it really slow returning to running. My usual setbacks are the cold (Canada, oh Canada…) that comes with running outside in the winter, and the humidity in the summer. And getting motivated when I have lots to do…

What gets your pumped up? I fundraise as a part of my running, always for the same ecology organization in my city. Knowing I have people supporting me just gives me the extra boost to get it done! This is the first time I fundraised a big amount, I just passed $1.000 this morning Also, the feeling of a clear head I get during/after running. It helps, even if it’s hard to get out there sometimes.

LLH, do you like your FitBit? I’ve been considering getting one, but I always just use my Ipod for tracking. Even though the Nike+ website has been sucking lately. It won’t let me share my runs on facebook – and I’ve been promising people running updates as a part of fundraising.

I can’t run on a treadmill to save my life. It’s too boring. Even the indoor track sucks. Why don’t you like running outdoors? Do you live in an area with too much traffic, etc?

                I love this thread!

What are you training for? I am running a half-marathon this coming Sunday!

How often do you train/how far? I normally do 4-8 miles mixed with smaller 3-4 runs (more often).

Do you train on treadmill or outside? Both, I used to only use the treadmill but after my boyfriend & I split up, I didn’t have the treadmill anymore and was forced to run outside. Now that we are back together, I’m having trouble ever wanting to use the treadmill!

How long have you been running? Since my junior year of high school when I joined our cross-country team!

What are your favorite songs to run to? A wide variety of popular songs. I’m not a huge music fan unless I’m running so it’s really whatever sticks with me – a lot of Taylor Swift!

What have been your set backs? I am really bad at stretching or doing anything outside of running! Instead of adding in easy days, I tend to just run. I ended up with a knee that was popping b/c my IT band was so tight. Haha! I’m trying to get into the habit of doing other work outs too.

What gets your pumped up? Like LLH, the more often I run and keep with it, the healtheir I eat and the better I feel. It’s great when I know I’ve done a good job exercising lately and it gives me a huge self-esteem boost.

I run to the clothesline when it starts spitting to grab the clothes before it rains – does that count???
The same with the phone if I’m ‘expecting’ an important call……

But that’s about it for me…. *SIGH*!

                  LOL!

Edit to ADD – LOL! Let me try this again…. When it starts spitting (lightly raining), I run to the clothesline…….

I don’t have a clothesline but I do run to the dryer when I’m de-wrinkling something and the little bell goes off!

AH — I’ve also been known to run to the bathroom, and I used to be able to downright work up a sweat at Black Friday sales!

I have set world records running to the bathroom JR. Fill me with 3 cups of tea at the start line with a toilet at the finish line and I will beat everyone participating in a marathon on this thread, LOL! I have even been known to wrestle anyone stronger than me that is trying to get to the loo before me after a day out shopping, ha ha ha! DAM bladder letting me down….. sigh!

                                    LOL!!!

These are the only times I run:
                                          A) Chasing after the kids I babysit and playing games like tag non stop for 2 hours. (Mondays)
                                          B) Tuesdays I play an active game with friends usually.
                                          C) Running my dog around our property or getting random bursts of energy and zooming around the house.

Although running for the phone, bathroom or best spot on the couch are not uncommon.

I want to take up running (honestly) but I refuse to run around this town without a buddy (for safety reasons) and nobody will come with. So I just walk to the library with family members/friends…

I used to run years ago, but got heavy into aerobics classes and gave up running. Tore my knees up doing that, one more so than the other. Paying for it now!

I really do wish I had the stamina to run outside. How could I do 8 miles on the treadmill one day, but couldn’t even run a mile outside today? I really am starting to think it’s my allergies b/c it’s hard to breathe!

LLH and tanlover, my lungs do the same thing when I switch from indoors to outdoors. The first run outdoors after practicing indoors is always a bust. But it’s so much more fun to run outside, totally worth it

I was supposed to run yesterday, but I when I got home from my conference it was hovering around zero and very windy I decided to just curl up on the couch and watch Game of Thrones…
