everyone keeps telling me to get an older rabbit if I do decide to get a second. But most likely it will be an unaltered adult, I was even offered retired breeders from show lines. But I do not know how old is too old to spay or neuter. especially if they have been breeders.

I know most shelters spay/neuter and I would LOVE to do that but we have only one rabbit rescue here and they are not a good option plus they never have the breed I want. I would really love if that was simple. even finding my Holland Lop wasn’t easy.

I got my Holland Lop neutered when he was 5 years old. He wasn’t a breeder and the vet kept a closer eye on him afterwards because of his age but he was just fine in about a day. Hope this helps!

Bunny personalities begin to blossom during their teenage years, but the end result usually isn’t seen until they are at least 1 year old. Some bunnies continue to mellow after that too.
No matter how old a bunny is, a neuter is going to be the easier procedure. Boys bounce back much more quickly because removing the testicles is much less invasive than removing the ovaries and uterus. Shelters spay and neuter older bunnies all the time though. They are more likely to do blood work though to make sure everything is functioning okay and they will likely keep a closer eye following the procedure. The vast majority still make it through just fine. So I wouldn’t worry too much about getting an older bunny that hasn’t been spayed/neutered yet. Even a bunny that is 5 or more years old can be spayed/neutered.

Thank you I know neuters are much easier but … Sometimes you just fall for a female
