Just recently, my rabbit has taken up the art of thumping.  I don’t know what she is thumping at.  She has been living in my room for about 5 months now and nothing has changed.  She seems to thump the most when she is on top of my bed and when she is in her cage in the early morning.  Do your rabbits randomly thump out of nowhere?

I feel like Pumpkin thumps just to make noise and is saying “pay attention to me!!!!” Rocky only thumps when there’s a real reason (noise or whatever). Kind of odd that your just kind of starting randomly thumping. Did you rearrange anything recently?

My rabbit thumps in the morning because she is hungry. Do you usually feed her in the morning?

I usually have no idea why by buns are thumping. I just figure it’s because their hearing is way better and they are hearing something that I’m not.

bunbun101 yeah she thumps in the morning when she is hungry but not since I let her be free range. Letting her roam my room freely is such a game changer! My hypothesis is she sees something outside (as I have a large window) and thinks she is in danger.

pepper thumps at loud noises (popcorn popping or my kids fighting are big ones) and he thumps at night when he has to get back in his cage and he doesn’t want to, and sometimes i’ll hear him thump in the morning if we don’t get him out at his liking

Today Sif, who’s about 2 months old, decided to thump while playing. She’s thumped before but today she’s doing it a lot more. We are in the process of making her and her hubby, Thor, a condo so they are in it but it’s not completed yet. Is it due to the change or is she just upset?

Hahah! Koucha has been thumping at me since she was 1! Now she is almost 6! She mostly thumps to get me to look at her and pet her. I can tell when she does it when she hears something outside (that we hoominz can’t hear) because of her body language. her posture gets stiff and her ears are straight up! O_O

Toby has never been a big thumper, but he does thump in the morning if he doesn’t get fed fast enough, and he thumps when the baby cries, lol. Like LCC said, I can usually tell if he’s just thumping for the sake of noise, based on his body language….if he just wants attention, he still looks relaxed and his ears are still down. If he’s scared, or hears something that I can’t, or if it’s storming outside, he’s all balled up and his ears are straight up in the air, lol.

Porky does every now and then, always after dark. I figure he hears or smell something.

There is a fox that lives in the park across from our house, and I know it will come into our yard at night. Once it ran out from under our porch one early morning, and I frequently see tracks when it snows.
