I am getting my first bunny and after he is neutered and litter trained I plan to give him an xpen and just let him have all the space. The current cage is a XL dog crate, but once I open it up to include the x pen The doors will be in the way, Has anyone ever taken the doors off of their dog crate? or should I leave them on so I can confine them if needed?

We took the door off of one of our dog crates and have the crate inside the bunnies’ area as a “kitchen/bathroom” area (i.e. the litterboxes and hay feeders are in it). Hubby just pried the “hinge” wires open with a flat head screwdriver enough to slide the door off. We could put the door back on but we don’t plan to (we also have two other crates and multiple xpens too!). If you remove it carefully, you should be able to put it back on by squeezing the wires back closed. You could also arrange the xpen so the area in it is smaller if you needed to confine your bunny to a smaller area quickly (quick changes are a nice thing about xpens).

thats what i was thinking, I just don’t have the crate on hand to look at the hinges so I wasn’t sure how it was connected.
