        Hi Bunny Parents.

I have a 3.5 pound mini rex, who loves his veggies, but I’m wondering if you can “overfeed” them on the veggies?  Every week, I rotate different veggies to keep his interest.  Of course he has hay available at all times, and I give him a refresh on pellets once a day.  He does not really eat pellets, but since I feed him every 12 hours (5:00 A.M / 5:00 P.M.) he does snack on them in between feedings if he gets hungry, and wants something other than hay.

I guess i’m just curious if a rabbit can get too many veggies.  It seems when reading about a rabbits diet it always says “a minimum” of 1 cup per 3 pounds.

I suspect that if you were overfeeding veggies, he would be experiencing mushy poos because of the extra water. I would only be concerned about not feeding too many veggies high in oxalic acid.

Is that your guy in your avatar? If yes, he’s ridiculously adorable.

            LittlePuffyTail,

Yes, my avatar is my little guy, Snickers.

I make sure that I watch the oxalic acid veggies and don’t offer more than one of those each week, and no where near the amount as the amount as the others.

            Thanks for your input.

My only other concern (besides mushy poos) would be that he is eating enough hay. Vet had us cut back on Pumpkin’s veggies b/c her teeth weren’t wearing down enough since she wasn’t eating enough hay.

              Wow Snickers looks so soft!!

Little Lion Head, as far as his hay consumption goes, he does eat quite a bit, but since I am not with him 24/7 its hard to tell exactly how much he is eating.  Before I leave for work, I refresh his hay and then my kids might give him some when they get home from school, and I will refresh it at his dinner feeding.  We do offer him 4-5 different types of hay, to keep him interested.  Because he did go through a bout of GI Stasis, we completely changed his diet (slowly of course) and we all make 100% sure he has hay at all times, so that’s why it’s hard to know exactly how much he eats, because everyone is always giving him hay.  I would have to think that he is getting enough, but I will keep a close eye on that.

                Thank you for your input.
