        Hi Everyone!

So I am getting back into the world of house buns after being out of it a while having kiddos etc.

We recently adopted the largest rabbit I’ve ever had (he is my 6th house bun), he is a little over 9lbs. He is currently in a 24×36″ dog crate and it is WAY too small so we are looking at two options….either a 3 panel high, 2 level L shaped (it will be in a corner) C&C cage, OR a 42″ tall (so same height as the C&C cage), 2 level exercise pen put into an L shape. Thoughts? I’m wondering about the sturdiness of both – especially with a second level (it will be on the long part of the L). I know the C&C cages have support bars and I’d have to do something similar with an exercise pen I know…would love any input/thoughts ya’ll have!

        Thanks in advance!

I’ve had an ex-pen type thing for my giants and I really liked that.
I think I’d prefer that to a cage with levels; bigger buns tend to not like jumping up and down levels as much as smaller buns do.

I have this for my big bunny Zeus:

            http://www.petco.com/product/110108/WARE-Premium–Penthouse-Playpen.aspx

It’s kind of pricey but I was able to get it on sale for $100 and free shipping. I also added a small addition with the C&C panels – the addition is one panel by three panels. I used a vinyl flooring remnant as the bottom, works great.

Tessie is right, the big buns don’t seem to be too interested in lots of levels. Also, levels in a C&C cage would have to be VERY well reinforced for a large bun.

Do the C&C cages have a removable bottom without taking out my bunny?

A C&C is a custom cage that you usually don’t remove the bottom.

I am curious though, why do you not want to remove your rabbit from its cage?

                  Hi All,

So after hearing from you guys and reading/thinking more, we decided not to go with a C&C for our bun…though I think they are a great option to provide more space inexpensively, I think for our bigger bun it just isn’t the best idea.

We settled on the BestPet Heavy Duty Playpen….we are making a plywood base (with a 3″ or so frame around it to keep hay etc. in) and a screen top (really to just keep out flying toys since we have children ) as well as just one shelf with a ramp that will provide some exercise on days when he’s not out and about with us for hours on end.

I was going back and forth between vinyl and slate/textured ceramic tile for the floor….any thoughts? I saw at Home Depot that I can get vinyl cut to size and then use a double stick tape to adhere it to the plywood base…thinking that sounds easiest…?

                  Thanks!

She runs away from me when I try to get her out.
