        Hi everyone!

My bunny Rorschach has been with us for three weeks now and has filled our home with so much love and happiness. I went a little crazy buying new toys for him recently because we are afraid that he will be bored when he’s left by himself during the day. It would be tough for us to get a second bunny at the moment, but I was wondering whether it would be better to do it earlier than later (while the bunnies are still young?) Rorschach is just about to turn three months old and Ive found conflicting information online about whether it would be best to get a second bunny that is about the same age. I would love to hear about any experiences you might have had bringing a second baby bunny home.

        Thanks in advance!

If you are considering a second rabbit then you want to wait until he is neutered and then go to a rescue and take him on some “dates” and let him pick his own companion.

Also if you are concerned he is lonely during the day, I would imagine that he is just sleeping. I have a single rabbit now and he’s approximately 5 years old and when I’m home during the day, I rarely see him – sometimes he’ll come downstairs and hop around and want to be petted but for the most part he’s upstairs snoozing so don’t feel guilty about just having one rabbit…it’s perfectly okay if that is what fits your lifestyle better :~)

Phew! Thanks, Sarita. Your response has definitely helped ease my mind. Having a single rabbit is the most ideal scenario right now, but I will definitely consider the “bunny date” idea if things change in the future ?

Ditto everything Sarita said. I have had single bunnies, and when I was home during the day they wanted me to just shut up and let them sleep. It’s like the middle of the night to them (when they also get their deepest sleep time.) That’s why they are ideally suited to a working adult’s lifestyle.

They are called “crepuscular” which means they are most alert at dawn and dusk. Wild bunnies find those times the safest to be out to eat/play because it’s hard for predators to see them. House bunnies have a natural internal schedule that’s the same, so play and eat when you get up, and when you get home from work. It’s perfect timing.

Wait a month after you get your bunny neutered before dating. The hormones take 4-6 weeks to settle down, and he doesn’t want to gwt a girl pregnant!

                Thanks for the advice!

I’ve also seen a number of people give their single bunnies a stuffed toy rabbit to play with. Is this recommended?

I don’t think it hurts to try that – he may or may not respond to it.
