Hi, I’ve got two 14 week old female lionheads whom, up until the other day we’re perfectly happy. However as they’ve started to near maturity, the smaller of the two has begun to constantly mount the larger. They are definitely both female so I’m aware this is just a display of dominance but it can be stressful for them. Most vets say they will spay at four months which is a week or so from now but they also Base this on weight. Lionheads are a small breed and I’m wondering would it still be safe to have them spayed at four months if they have yet to reach optimal size?

If you have a good rabbit savvy vet, he or she should be able to tell you when your rabbits are ready to be spayed. Have you taken them in to be checked yet? You didn’t say that they were fighting, but if that starts happening in addition to the mounting, then they should probably be separated and kept that way until they have had their surgery and have recuperated. Then they can be re-bonded. Rabbits can really get hurt when fighting is involved, so you want to prevent that.

Definitely talk with your vet. All three of mine were spayed/neutered at 4 months or just before, and I think our vets wanted them to be at least 2 lbs.
