My rabbit was fine all day. She was eating and all usual habits but in the last few hours she’s become very quiet and keeps lying down with back legs right out. She’s grinding teeth and won’t show any affection to me or my cat. She is usually very overwhelming. She rolled over like a happy roll but is breathing faster and looks skinnier. She doesn’t usually let me touch her back legs or in her genital area but she’s not even budging. I checked for a blockage but a pellet was pushes out fine. She urinated when I touched her stomach and moved away so I’m worried its her tummy. Please help. I’m beside myself. What do I do!???????

If she is lying down on her tummy with both back legs stretched out behind her that usually means a bunny is very relaxed and content. Is she grinding or tooth purring ? If she is grinding then the position that goes with pain is generally hunched into a loaf. The only other thing I could as is if she looks like she is pushing her tummy into tge floor as that could indicate gas.

Do you have any simethicone (baby gas drops) or can you get to a chemist/pharmacy to buy some? You can give her a small dose of gas drops without harm, small buns 1/2 ml average buns 1 ml. You can get oral dosing syringes at the chemist too. However before all that if she is eating, drinking, pooping and peeing normally I would just leave her be and book in with your vet for a check up.

The only other thing you should look for is floppiness. Can she hop and stand normally, is she unresponsive if you touch her. If there is any muscle weakness or paralysis ? If so then you need to get to an emergency vet. Floppy bunny syndrome can kill a bunny very quickly.

Its 830 at night. She keeps urinating and curing up on her side. Its def grinding not purring. I rang the emergency vets and its $150 just to be seen. I can’t afford that.

Ok. Can you get to a pharmacy for the gas drops ?

Is it possible for some one to lend you the money or get care credit ? A lot of vets have financial aid they can offer.

I have just got home from emergency vets. She’s very cold (shock) and gaunt . she’s on fluids in a heated cage over night

She’s been to the vet for tummy issues before but the vet wasn’t rabbit savvy. They did a full check and said she might have a tummy problem and she will need to go on a special diet

Can you do a tummy rub? It’s a gentle rub that may get things moving (gas f ex). If she tolerates it, it is very good. I also recommend the baby-gasdrops. As Roberta says.

Arasweetie, do you have any vitamin E capsules in the house or vit E oil (oral) If so put about 0.1 ml in a dosing syringe or on her food if she will eat.

I’m an absolute wreck at the moment. But I know she’s in good hands there. The vets have rabbit training. And promised she would be in a quiet room with no other animals. They said they are going to force feed her. That’s going to really upset her ? Thankyou for the support. I will do a follow up once she’s home tomorrow x

It really is scary when your bunny is sick. But you’ve done the best you can for her. It’s out of your hands now.

Vibes for you and your bunbun!

Yes. I called the vets at 10am they said that they gave her fluids and forced food over the night but Ara still hadn’t pooped by 10am so they wanted to keep her longer. Its 320pm and I just got her home. I have been given a tube of fiber that smells like black jelly beans that I need to force feed and some syringes with metoclopramide that I need to give her every 8 hours for GI tract movement as they said they couldn’t hear any movemnt in the gut. She’s done some poop but they are necklace poops and a lot smaller than usual. She’s been eating hay since I got her home. So I think all will be ok
