My 8 year old lionhead was just diagnosed with intestinal adhesions. I’ve had her for 3 years and she’s been through stasis so many times, the vet thinks it caused the adhesions to form. She is currently in stasis but unable to empty her stomach due to the adhesions.- so the vet thinks. She gave her pain meds, mobility drugs and fluids but said not to give her anymore food (unless she chooses to eat on her own). She had a single poop today and no more. What can I do for her? The dr said surgery is not an option. If she makes it through the night she will go in for an ultrasound tomorrow. This came on fast, she was fine yesterday I’m an experienced rabbit person, and this is the first time I’ve dealt with this. Is this the end for my little girl? :,(

I’ve never heard of this and had to do some googling. I really don’t see how this could be caused by stasis, it looks like it’s normally caused by surgeries. I would sit tight and try not to worry tonight, and see the vet for the ultrasound in the am. I would also maybe look for another vet for a second opinion. You want to find out what’s causing the frequent stasis for sure, hoping of course it’s not this adhesions thing.

I’m sending loads of vibes. If you can’t force feed her, the only other things I could suggest is making sure she’s toasty warm if she looks chilled, try to encourage her to move around, have all her favorite foods around so she might eat on her own and provide lots of drinking water-maybe even some apple juice to try to get her to drink. If she’s not drinking you could probably syringe some water into her to make sure she does not dehydrate.

She made it through the night, but still isn’t pooping. She’s just hiding at this point and totally inactive.
One of my rabbit group members said she had this happen to a GI prone rabbit before. My thoughts are the adhesions have played a part in being the cause of her chronic stasis and it’s escalated both issues. The ultrasound tech is in a noon today so I will update later today.
