Hera and Zeus are going to the vet tomorrow.  Zeus just needs a sanitary shave (he’s doing great after his bout with the inner ear infection, thank goodness!), but Hera is getting a dental exam.  I noticed the other way when she yawned, that one of her front teeth was sticking out almost sideways.  The tooth looked really thin and tiny, so I’m guessing it’s a peg tooth.. but I’m not sure on that.

I’m going to have the vet take a look tomorrow and see what she says.  She’s not acting differently, not drooling, eating fine, doing zooms and binkies like she always does.  What can I expect from the vet tomorrow?  I’ve never dealt with teeth issues before.  Can they trim or file down the tooth?  Do pretty much all tooth issues have to be treated under anesthesia?

If it’s a front tooth, I think they should be able to handle it right there in the office using something like wire cutters to cut it back

Vet did a dental exam and the diagnosis is Hera has plain old bad teeth. Her peg teeth are growing every which way and her incisors, top and bottom, aren’t growing right, either.

The options were to get her teeth trimmed every three to four weeks for her lifetime (!!!), or extract all of her incisors and peg teeth. I’ll be setting up the appointment for the extraction soon. Luckily the vet says I caught it early, and she has no sores or anything from her teeth right now.

Hera went in for another bicillin shot yesterday (Zeus has syphilis and it’s highly contagious, so although Hera is asymptomatic she’s getting the shots too), and I asked the vet about the extraction. She wants to finish the course of the bicillin shots (another week or two), then schedule the extraction.

I did ask her about the cost, and she said anywhere between $100-$300, and that she’d get me an official estimate next week. After seeing costs of $1000+, I was much relieved to find this out. I’d of course have it done regardless of cost, but at least it’s reasonably in my budget.

I was expecting you to say it would cost a lot more than that!! Glad it seems to be a simple fix for Hera!
