I rented a couple 5 week old bunnies for Easter and decided to keep one.  Would have kept both but they were of opposite sex.  I asked the breeder and the only thing she could tell me was that they were dwarfs.  I am just curious as to what kind of rabbit she is.  I have had her for a week now so she is 6 weeks old.  This is my families first rabbit and my 3 year old son loves her.  My son has problems with speech and no matter how many times we tell him it’s bunny he insists on calling her a mouse so we have just decided to go with it and have named her Mouse.

There are many dwarf breeds of bunny. Also, petstores and unscrupulous breeders (if she doesn’t know what breed they are she is unscrupulous) will often label all bunnies as dwarfs, b/c they sell better.

A photo would help, though at 5 weeks old it is hard to tell breed. Many breed specific traits, such as ear type and coat texture, develop with age.

To be honest, I’m totally blown away by this: ‘I rented a couple 5 week old bunnies for Easter’

            That aside…

We really can’t tell you what breed it is without a picture.
Just ‘dwarf’ isn’t much to go on, I’m afraid, haha!
Mouse is a very sweet name.

Be sure to keep a very close eye on Mouses’s input/output. 5 weeks is very young to be away from mummy bunny. We had a bunny that was separated too early and she had digestive issues, which eventually ended her life quite young. Watch for poppy butt and make sure she has plenty of hay.

What would you “rent” a bunny for? I have never heard of such a thing. Strange.

Renting bunnies for Easter is a great way to prevent people buying Easter bunnies then letting them go in the wild or giving them to shelters.

I guess that makes sense, Eepster, but it just seems awful young to be passing them around.

5 weeks is really too young to be separated from their mother. 8 weeks minimum for any mammal.

at 6 weeks it’d be hard to tell, but a pic would be helpful.

                    Mouse is a cute name.
