I am 99% sure that my little guy hates vegetables, haha. I gave up trying a few months ago but we had a scare with GI stasis a few weeks back so I’ve really been pushing them again… but to no avail. It’s getting super frustrating, my goodness!

He eats hay like there’s no tomorrow and gets a tiny little bit of pellets (less than half of a quarter cup per day), and then for treats he gets one raisin in the morning and one at night. All of those he is super into and gets very excited for, but I just can’t get him into his veggies. I’ve tried spring mixes, field mixes, arugula, romaine, red leaf… I feel like I’m out of lettuces to try!

Anyone have any advice for an insanely picky boy? I thought arugula would do the trick since I had read somewhere that picky buns tend to favour them, that so far has been a no go. I’ve just been putting the leaves in his bowl overnight hoping he might nibble, but I just seem to wake up to a pile of untouched arugula (if he hasn’t decided to throw them all over the floor!).

        Someone haaaalp!

Try basil, mint, cilantro, or maybe wheat grass. Once you find something that he likes, chances are he’ll try other things.

I swear to GOD my rabbits can tell organic from conventional vegetables. They wolf down organics but pick at conventional, no matter how well I wash them. (yeah, nice and spoiled!)

However, some irresistible greens for my girls are:
            carrot tops (probably their fav)
            wheat grass
            kale
            Dandelions (flowers and leaves)

I’d try some really strong-tasting stuff (dandelions, mustard greens) and some really bland stuff (romaine lettuce hearts) and see if he has a preference and go from there.
If he still didn’t eat any, I’d consider cutting out the pellets altogether to see if that makes a difference.

I never would have thought buns could be so picky, haha! I have typically gone for organics when it is possible, so I’ll stick to those just in case.

I’ll definitely try some of your suggestions and see if I can get him to try any. I think that’s my main issue- actually getting him to try it. Thanks for the advice, guys!

Liebchen isn’t big on lettuce, either! Here are some of her favorites:

Kale, Cilantro, Dill, Thyme, and Sage. I remember thyme being the one thing I could convince her to eat (as long as I hand fed it to her) after she got spayed.

As others have said, just try a few different things until you come across something your bun loves!

pepper loves everything LOL! his favorite seems to be romaine lettuce, but he also like spinich, spring mix with red leaf, dandelion, and not sure what else. Will he eat things like celery (one of pepper’s favorite non leafy vegetables) or other non leafy veggies?

I’ve tried a few of everyone’s suggestions and I got him to (reluctantly) nibble a little bit on some dill today… but he went right back to his hay in spite of having a bowl full of fresh dill, collard greens, and swiss chard! I have been looking for dandelion greens and wheat grass since those are coming up quite a bit, but I can’t seem to find them anywhere. I even went to a pricey vegan store looking for more variety, but nothin’. I’m definitely considering cutting out his pellets for a couple days to see if it’ll get him to try some of these vegetables. I think it’s just the issue of him not wanting to try things because he knows he gets those dang pellets he adores so much.

I haven’t tried too many non-leafy veggies other than offering him a bit of carrot once and he hopped away without a care. I can’t even get him to eat fruits like strawberry, raspberry or banana (what’s wrong with this guy, hahaha) as a treat.

I’m super envious of the people whose buns aren’t picky at all! Haha

You may try ethnic grocery stores for some other interesting leafy greens. Wheat grass often gets sold at pet stores as “cat grass” or pet grass. If all else fails, grow a pot of it yourself.
