So I have a 4.5 month old Velveteen lop named Lumpy. Last week it finally got to 55 degrees, it was a beautiful breezy day and I decided that bunny might like to come out for a while. Instead of doing normal bunny stuff, binkying around and eating grass, he decided to climb up on my lap and sleep. If I moved he would find other ways to snuggle up and nap. While this is all very cute, he doesn’t normally act like that at all. While not entirely shy, he isn’t that affectionate at all, it is very rare that he sits still to be pet for more than a minute at a time. I was worried that maybe he was overheated but it was only 55 degrees, and he has short rex-like fur. He also became more active after a little while, but still not as timid as usual. Does anyone know what might have happened there? He’s been back to normal ever since.

Maybe he was just feeling insecure outside – many rabbits do not like change in routines or scenery. Sounds like he likes it better inside where he feels safe.

Agree with Sarita. Maybe he was afraid and needed reassurance.

I brought mine out several times and they really didn’t like it. Olivia was really freaked out and actually jumped onto my shoulder. Take me in, Mom!

I took mine out last summer in an little dog run thing and they didn’t seem do enjoy themselves either. They sat there. I might try again this summer, not sure. I don’t want fleas and I’d prefer not to treat them for fleas.

Thanks all, I think you definitely could be right!! I will see how he feels on another warm day and if he acts strange again I’ll be sure to keep him inside.

Awww… it sounds like your little guy really trusts you!
At the start of the season when Hazel hasn’t been out for a while she gets nervous and wants to be comforted but not quite that much.

UPDATE: Brought him outside again this past weekend and he loved it! He immediately recognized the grass and began chewing on it, next thing you know he’s binkying! Only downside for me is he didn’t get all cuddly :p, but he definitely enjoyed being pet more than usual!
