My rabbit Diggory is two years old and I’ve had him for about a year and a half. He has the run of my room, a pretty big cage and has done well health wise, plus I’m able to give him lots of attention since he’s my only bun.

He still seems to get bored sometimes though and I’ve always considered getting another bunny for him to bond with because I know all the benefits to it, but haven’t because of space and money.

He’s neutered and I would get a spayed female.

Is it too late for me to get another bun? Or does that make it harder for them to bond? I’m worried he is already used to being my only rabbit and wouldn’t adjust well to another bun, but I could be wrong. It just worries me that I’d get another one and he wouldn’t like it. I don’t know too much about bonding though.

How would I go about introducing them and getting him used to another bunny after being alone for so long?

Hi Kate, welcome aboard. Definitely not too late to bond, most rabbits can bond for their entire lives if they’re in good shape physically. There’s step by step guides in the bonding subforum and the members will be able to answer specific questions once you get on with the bonding. Neutral territory and patience is key. Good luck and do tons of research before even getting a new girl

The best thing you could do is let Diggory pick out his bunny match. We took Pumpkin to a “Hoppy Hour” event put on by our look House Rabbit Society. I was intent on getting an adorable silver martin mix, but it was Shamrock that hopped up and groomed her right away, so we brought Shamrock home. I think you could probably bond any two buns, but if you let Diggory pick, it might make your journey easier. Good luck
