I have a friend who has two female syrian hamsters that she has to get rid of because she recently had a baby and doesn’t have time for them anymore. I am only planning to get one since I already have Jude (my rabbit) and 2 more little critters in my room would just be too much. She’s going to give me one hamster, it’s cage and it’s belongings, some of it’s food, and it’s exercise ball for 20 dollars. The question is: Is it safe to keep a hamster and a rabbit together? Not in the same cage or anything but lets say, keeping the hamsters cage on the floor of my room with Jude roaming free? When I move out I’m just going to keep the hamsters cage on top of the 2 level leith petwerks cage for convenience so it would only be for a few months on the floor of my room

I would probably keep his cage out of reach of your bunny. If the bunny were to bite the hamster through the bars, he could do a lot of damage.

it’s a diy bin cage, not a normal hamster cage, and the bars/ventilation is on top of the bin. I will keep the cage out of reach just in case though

I’m picking up the hamster tomorrow. I’m going to try to choose the one that is most social. My boyfriend actually said he doesn’t want the hamster in his house which I’m moving into in about 2 months..but I told him I’m getting it anyway and if he decides by the time I’m moving in that he still is against it being in his house that I will find it another home. I’m pretty positive that he will change his mind once he gets to be around it and realizes that it’s not that different from Jude (rabbit) or his old guinea pig. It’s just smaller lol

Jude seems to not even notice she’s there, which is good, I guess. She has already let me hold her once(: Her name is Dot

I would keep the cage out of reach because your bun might try to jump on top of it or something.

Congrats on the new addition though! She’s an adorable hamster!

it has a lid with holes in it plus holes in the sides, even if Jude did decide to sit on top of the container or sit directly in front of it she would have access to air lol. The lid also locks on both sides so she’s good.

I have a Syrian hamster and a rabbit. I would advise keeping the hamster cage off the floor (my Freddie is on a table) purely because bunnies are inquisitive Bramble is always trying to play with Freddie and I worry that he might knock the cage over or something like that. They get on ok when they are both out (Freddie in his ball obviously) but Bramble is definitely more interested in Freddie than Freddie is in Bramble. Bramble is always trying to play with Freddie and most of the time Freddie just wants to run about by himself, or sit in the corner washing his face which seems to be his favourite pastime.

cute! When my husband and I were first married we had 2 hamsters. Sam and Sidney. Your hamster looks like our Sidney. Sam was a pure white hamster.

So far Jude has just ignored Dot. I really doubt I’ll have any problems with the cage being on the floor. There actually isn’t anything for me to put it’s cage on top of that’s big enough..the cage is huge.. Sounds like the rolls have switched haha. My Jude (rabbit) doesn’t do much and is mostly just chill and calm and Dot is everywhere and very active
