I have two bunnies that I just recently got. I was told they are six weeks old. But I noticed they have fleas! What can I do to rid the fleas from the bunnies before it gets any worse.
I read about giving them Apple cider vinegar. Is there anything I can clean the cage with or put in their bedding to repel the fleas?

        Thanks

You can buy Revolution or Advantage topical flea treatments. DO NOT use Frontline. You should call your vet concerning dosages.

You will need to be especially diligent about cleaning while you are treating them. Fleas are stubborn little things. Vacuum every day, using flea power if needed. Wash all sheets, fleeces, and pillows your bunnies have had contact with.

Thank you so much for your response!
I’ve read about using revolution but didn’t know if they were too young. I’ll call my vet though or just bring them in.

I’ve been vacuuming and using a flea comb.

Is it okay for me to give them Apple cider vinegar?
I was reading that it has a lot of health benefits.
            They are mini lop bunnies.

            Thanks

6 weeks is a bit young to use any flea treatment directly on them. Usually the mother would be treated and the babies would then get their protection from her as the solution transfers to their fur during feeding. 8 weeks is when they would normally start to wean. 12 weeks is about the age you can use Revolution directly on them. This would be a great time to get a good bunny vet and have a base line check and see what they recommend for flea treatment in young bunnies. You could try small amounts of diatomaceous earth in small amounts fluffed through their fur and combed out.

Oop, I missed that they are very young.
                Definetly do what Roberta said.

Just checked, you can use Revolution (Selamectin) from 8 weeks of age. You will need a very accurate weight to calculate the dose and I would recommend using a 1 ml oral syringe to measure it out and apply it. In the interim do consider consulting your vet. The diamotaceous earth can be purchased in a few places and I would recommend using food grade. You can sprinkle it around the yard and through the carpet as well, vacuum the carpet well and frequently after each application to get the fleas and eggs out. You could try putting the bedding into a bag and giving it a good shake with the diamotaceous earth before hanging out to remove the excess before washing it (otherwise you will get a washer ful of sludge). For a surface spray try mixing some lemon peels in white vinegar to steep and try cleaning the hard surfaces with that. Just use straight white vinegar in the cage/hutch area.

                    Thank you so much!
Yall answered all my future questions I had.

I set up an appointment with a vet that I was told had a lot of experience with rabbits.

I hope this is true since I want to get them neutered when they get old enough.
I’ll find out at the appt. Though
