My bunnies love to play in a fenced off area in our front lawn and with March’s first spring arriving, she had been obsessed with finding dandelions and eating them, stem, leaves, and all. And I had heard that it’s fine for them but I just wanted to make sure.

Also, we live in the great deserts of Utah, so I know some heat is on it’s way. This will be her first summer as well so I’m feeling kindof nervous about how she will handle the heat. What are some signs that it’s too hot for her? I read up on some tricks to help cool them down. What cooling tricks work best for you?

(she has a bad habit of chewing holes in bottles so I’m a little unsure about the frozen water bottle thing)

Dandelions are fine. She won’t be playing outside in the heat, will she? If she’s inside in the air conditioning, then she should be fine. Some people use frozen water bottles or tiles to provide extra cooling.

Dandelions are great-make sure they aren’t sprayed with anything. If your neighbors spray then maybe don’t let them eat, because it can travel and they are pretty sensitive. But they are a favorite around here.

Your rabbits are kept indoors and you have air conditioning?

The classic ice bottle chew, yes, some of mine do that. I use empty soft drink bottle usualy the 1.25 ltr. Make sure the labels are off and being round and smooth once they are frozen it will take a while to find some where to sink her teeth in. My bunnies are all indoors and have AC. You can also chill tiles in the fridge or freezer, even unfridge tiles are relatively cool. Bricks are also good. There are little fans you can purchase that are designed to fit on the side of a dog crate or rabbit cage to give air movement. I used a swamp cooler before I got the AC and it didn’t cool the place but certainly kept the temps from getting up too high in their cage during the day.
