I took Pepper to be neutered today. This was attempt #2 at neutering.  The first time (3/12) the delayed it because one of his liver enzymes was elevated. I threw away the paper so i can’t tell you which enzyme or how elevated it was. But i guess there’s a parasite they can have that can elevate the enzymes. At the time they did a stool sample on him, but it was negative. Still we decided to wait and see if a second sample came back negative before proceeding with the surgery. Other than the elevated liver enzyme he was fine. Active, friendly, eating & drinking well, poop was normal. So we rescheduled for today…second stool sample negative again so they proceeded with the surgery. I dropped him off at 7:45AM, and the vet called me around 10AM saying the surgery was over and Pepper was doing great. He stayed a couple hours in recovery so they could make sure he was eating and drinking. I was able to pick him and take him  home around 2PM.

The poor guy! He looks so dazed and out of it! How long does it normally take for anesthesia to completely leave their system? We have him confined to his pen for right now. I keep checking on him, and he  has been eating, drinking, and pooping so that’s good.  The fur around his eyes is all matted and wet. I wonder if they put drops in his eyes so they didn’t dry out during surgery???

Have had three rabbits neutered/spayed. Normally they say the males recover quicker, but our female bounced back very quickly. I think it because she eats really well no matter how she is feeling. The first rabbit probably took 4 days to be pretty much back to normal, but he really did not want to eat anything except treats (and you can’t give a ton).

The other two were better in 2 days, and honestly the female seemed normal the next day. I think the quicker they get back to eating plenty the better, feel free to give a lot of greens for a few days. It also may just be that we got used to dealing with post-op bunnies and were less concerned with each passing surgery. In any event, as long as they are eating, they should be fine in a few days.

Males usually bounce back pretty fast. There should be improvement by today. Yes, they put drops in the eyes for the reasons you figured! I’m guessing he’s got those cleaned up pretty well by now

Just wanted to say I love the picture of Pepper and Sadie together! Both of my buns were fixed before I got them so I don’t have any advice!

He seems to be doing good. Eating, drinking normal. Poops look normal.  I’m hoping tomorrow to be able to let him out more to run and play. It’s been a busy last couple of days and I really haven’t been home to much. Normally i’m home all day.
