I’ve been watching these HowCast videos on caring for rabbits and came across this one that could be really helpful if you bunny is ever having gas pains! She has an interesting way to massage the belly at the end. Not sure my buns would ever go for it!

That was very informative LLH, thank you for sharing!

I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t know there was a good/specific way to massage their tummies. *AND* I didn’t know Simethicone was baby gas drops?

I guess you learn something new everyday!

(But I DO know, that Moxie will never let me lift her back feet off the ground like that! )

It was a good reminder that I should keep Simethicone on hand!! We tried rubbing Rocky’s belly tonight just to see if he would like it…not so much! haha

              Thank you, LLH! Really useful!

I have lifted Bam’s rear end up while massaging his tummy and he lets me. I’ve not tried it when he’s not had gas pain/tummy trouble though. He sists in my lap while I massage him, I very much doubt that he’d sit nice and still on a table like that little bunny in the video =)

                Woo, a twerking bunny!

But seriously, this video is really helpful! I know Ox would never let me lift his hind legs up but he does let me rub his belly when he’s gassy. I think alternating between these rubbing techniques will help the gas pass quicker.

A very well behaved twerking bunny! ha!

I’m going to tuck this video aside in a spot I store useful tidbits to remember/offer to people at a later date. (Too bad I didn’t put my future bunny’s name in there)
I’m thinking that if a bun is sick enough, they may allow us to hold them in ways they normally wouldn’t

I think Megabunny’s right. When Moshi has a bit of gas, I can do tummy rubs and put my hand under him (no lifting allowed yet though). Any other time he won’t let me near his undersides.

LLH — I swear by simethicone with Moshi. I’ve never had to give him more than two doses before he’s back to his bouncy self. I just buy the Walmart brand (Equate?). I don’t think its the best smelling stuff (none of mine will take it from the dropper), but all three of mine will take it on hand-fed bites of lettuce. I give Moshi a half dropper which is about .5 cc’s.

The bunnies in the HowCast videos, especially Bean, are so well behaved!

Simethicone has always been really helpful for Ox as well. Even though it helps him with gas he still won’t take it willingly. If I put it on food he won’t touch the food so I have to put it on my finger and smear it on his mouth when he isn’t expecting it. Running away in anger also seems to help the gas.

                        I definitely agree with MegaBunny!

Moxie has only once been sick enough/ had gas for her to need Simethicone. And of course that was the one time I didn’t have any of that tummy tea stuff the BB store has or Simethicone/pain meds. That was the time about a month-ish ago Moxie was REALLY sick/wouldn’t even move. How come when you are out of something you need it?

And I’d like to know what brands you all use for Simethicone, I’ve never bought it before but want to add it to my bunny first aid kit.

I just use equate Infants’ Gas Relief Simethicone Drops. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done.
